Exporting a photostory project

When exporting a photostory project to an mp4 file the process is extremely slow. In researching this I read that you need to have onboard video activated even if you have an external video card. My motherboard does not have onboard video but I have a fairly robust external video card. Surely there must be a way around this. I can't believe that your software is designed this way. I would appreciate any feedback and help that you can provide.

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums, so not a contact for any Magix staff and the software is not ours!

For "ideal" exporting times PS requires that you have an intel CPU with integrated graphics. It is not your motherboard which needs onboard video but your CPU. Exactly which CPU do you have? And which graphics card?

My CPU is an Intel Core i7 2.67 gigahertz and my graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT

Thank you for the additional information. Unfortunately, we really need to know exactly which model of intel i7 you have. Not all of them include the needed built-in graphics processor.

Looking up the spec for that particular CPU (here) I note that it is now quite old and does not, as I suspected, have integrated graphics. Unfortunately, therefore, all the graphics rendering is being done on your Nvidia card. Again, looking up its specification (see here) I notice it is of a similar age to your CPU and has limited VRAM and also does not support the latest versions of DirectX.

The combined effect of the CPU and GPU, when rendering to mp4 (what format of mp4, by the way?) is, regrettably, why you are seeing such slow export times, especially if you are wanting Full HD or even UHD.

Without knowing the exact specification of your Ideapad I honestly don't know! If you give the same level of details of its components as you gave for your desktop, we may be able to better advise you.

Which version of Photostory are you using?

There are some differences between Photostory 2022 and previous versions so we need to know which one you are using to give you the best advice.

Your processor has the Intel HD Graphics 520 iGPU.

I do not have Photostory 2019 installed, however under the Export as MPEG-4 dialog, Advanced settings you should have the option to use the Intel HD 520 GPU, it may look similar to the image below which is from Photostory 2022.

Do note that not all effects, if applied, are hardware accelerated and they will slow down the export speed.

Don't use the "Export" button on the main workscreen of PS but rather use File>Export>Video as MPEG 4. This will then show this screen:

Click the highlighted button. Then proceed as @johnebaker showed you.
