Export issue-A-LAW or U-LAW 8bit 16kHz adds an artifact at end of file

Export issue-A-LAW or U-LAW 8bit 16kHz adds an artifact at end of file.

Windows 10 64bit version 10.00.19045, 16G ram

Sound Forge Pro 16 version 16.1.3

Original wave file before processing. It is mono 16bit 44.1kHz. Notice: does not have artifact at end.

The batch processing:

Both A-LAW or U-LAW 8bit 16kHz adds an artifact at the end of the wave file.

Failed wave file using either A-LAW or U-LAW 8bit 16kHz. See artifact at end of file.

I noticed changing to PCM 8bit 16kHz works properly without artifact at the end.

For some reason it would not let me upload MP3 of the original and failed file, so I will try to upload on the next post.

The failed MP3. I converted the wave file to mp3 for upload

The original good MP3. I converted the wave file to mp3 for upload

@Greg-Alcorn Does it make a difference if you first reduce the bit depth via the Process menu to 8 bit, then reduce the sample rate to 16 kHz via the same menu and then export the file again?

As i recall, this issue has occurred before, and was resolved converting the PCM 44.1kHz/16 or 24 bits to s 16kHz / 8 Bit PCM <.wav> in the "Process" menu, Resample to 16k, then convert the Bit depth to 8. Confirm Save or Save as is set to a single channel mono 16kHz / 8bit PCM <.wav>.. Then simply change the file's extension to <.ulaw>
There are on-line converters like Convertio or Zamzar as well to convert PCM or other to U-LAW.

btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @Greg-Alcorn.

1. Manually works:

Process, Bit-Depth Converter=8, Resample=16kHz

Then export, renderer=Wave(Microsoft), A-LAW 8bit 16kHz.

2. Batch fails: Exactly the same as above selected in batch.

Batch cause the artifacts.

Greg-Alcorn wrote on 1/26/2023, 2:22 PM

During the batch, sometimes it puts the beginning sound at the end. Software issue?

Greg-Alcorn wrote on 1/26/2023, 2:25 PM

Note: Batch does work if export is changed from A-LAW to PCM 8bit 16kHz

I had been using the batch in Sound Forge 10 successfully for years. I upgraded to 16 and had to re-write the batch files and found this batch issue.
