Export fails halfway through with undescribed error.

Hengist wrote on 5/23/2024, 5:00 AM

The last few times I've tried to export a movie to 29fps mpeg 1920x1080, it's failed halfway through with a dialogue box that just says "Canceleed due to Error Code". There is no error code specified.

The video I've been exporting (compiled from source files 29fps 1920x1080 from my Samsung phone) is saved up to the point where it bugs out and appears to play fine. It just stops at the random place the export was cancelled. There does not seem to be a consistency as to when it cancels - it can be in the middle of a clip, at the end of a clip, and at a random time - one was 5:30 into the video, one was 10:35.

The software does not crash as part of this process. When I "OK" the error dialogue, I can continue as normal.

There is nothing unusual about the video clips I'm using - they're mostly video clips from the same phone I've been using for years, and which never presented any problems until very recently.

It appears that if I cut the project in two in the editor at the point of cancellation, each resulting half-project will export completely, with no errors.

I have over 200GB free on both the drive where my clips are stored, and the drive I'm exporting to.

Any ideas would be more than welcome!

@Hengist

Hi

. . . . compiled from source files 29fps 1920x1080 from my Samsung phone . . . .

Posssible causes of the export failure are:

  1. The video from the phone being Variable Framerate and the range, ie difference between the minimum and maximum framerate is more than 3 - 4 fps.

    Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips causing the issue, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

    In the video section of the analysis if you see:
    Framerate mode: Variable

    Then try converting the video clips to Constant Framerate using a video converter such as Handbrake or Avidemux and use these in the project.

  2. An effect added to a video clip is causing an issue. Run the export again and note the Movie time in the export dialogue when the export fails.

    Examine the videos clip(s) at the time noted - are there any effects applied. If so try removing the effect and export again.

  3. A combination of the above.

Thank you, John.

Via Mediainfo, I can see that the file is a constant 30fps.

There is no effect added to the clip, other than a transition from the previous clip - the same 8-frame crossfade that's between every other clip up to that point in the project.There's nothing fancy in this file - it really is just a stream of phone clips that I've strung together as a sort of video diary from my phone for a given month.

What I've done now is download 2024 Platinum, which will overwrite 2023. First thing to do is open that file and try exprorting it from 2024 ...

@Hengist

This is a question for @johnebaker as much as yourself.

You say you have exported to 1920 x 1080 but what is the resolution of the video file?

Also make sure your graphics processor is not selected in the program's settings for Import. Processing or Export as your 4th generation Intel GPU is not officially supported by MMS 2024 but could have been picked up by the program and used. I think that could cause such a trip up. It is why I have added John Baker to my reply for his thoughts on my suggestion.

Thanks Ray ... the original video clip was also 1920 x 1080. Graphics processor not selected for those functions.

The remarkable thing is that this only started happening recently, and I've used the software a lot over the last 6 months for holiday videos and so on.

In any case, I've now "upgraded" to MMS2024P, and it appears to have exported the project correctly and completely, so I'm no longer concerned. This thread may be of interest to others, so I won't remove it.

@Hengist

I'm glad you have a solution although having to upgrade the program to a new version seems a bit extreme as you were only one version behind. I'm wondering if it was because of a Windows update as I see you have the latest build. I myself have noticed changes to Win 10 recently that seems to have impeded the response of some of my other programs. My problems started around the same time as the last Windows update which ended up with me doing a clean install of Windows which I would not recommend if you want to have a local windows account. It took me a good deal of working around the operating system to get my re-install to accept I did not want an online account and Edge has become more intrusive than it was. Also although my computer was deemed OK for Windows 11 it now says it isn't. There are days I really hate computers.

Good point - could well be some kind of Windows interference. Upgrading wasn't a great hardship - it only cost me £16.99. Not that I've spotted much that's been upgraded so far - MMS2024P just looks slightly different, but apparently with exactly the same functionality and a bit slower! :)

Hi

. . . . MMS2024P just looks slightly different, but apparently with exactly the same functionality and a bit slower! . . . .

The program will be, as @CubeAce commented: 'your 4th generation Intel GPU is not officially supported by MMS 2024' the integrated GPU in the processor is an HD4000 series for which, Intel has disabled required features in the last driver update for this GPU. This GPU also does not support the requirements for DirectX 12 which MMS 2024 can use for maximum performance.

I suspect that MMS 2023 was trying to use this GPU, and MMS 2024 has ignored it, all import decoding, processing and export encoding will be done by the CPU, which is naturally slower.

BTW - the processor number you have given is 'odd', AFAIK and can find there is no such processor, should that be the Intel Pentium G3220 T ?
