Error with CD Writing

ronharbach wrote on 1/5/2012, 11:15 AM

I have created two audio files which I have transferred from tape, the longest one being about 68 minutes. When exporting and trying to write to CD after a few seconds I get the error message:

X Cannot write to disc - >Write error (SK/ASC/ASCQ 03/0C/00)

Possible reason:

- recording speed to high

- damaged CD-R

- driver trouble (please start the Troubleshooting)

- problems with  oversized CD-Rs

I have done other projects without any problem with the same discs.

Desktop HP and laptop Acer

The same fault occurs using both XP and Windows 7

Software is Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 17 Deluxe

The drivers are up to date and work okay with other software.

Have tried different brands of CD-Rs

I have no choice as to the writing speed, only 4X being available.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

AFAIK no CD would write at such a low speed.

Tthe 4x recording speed on both computers would suggest you are trying to burn to DVD or DVD RW discs!!

The only other possibility is that you have a bad batch of CDs, or counterfeit CDs.

No John. The disks are CD-R and I have tried different brands as stated. Also in the error report is states that the recording speed is to HIGH. I don't see a way of altering this.

Hi

If you have not done so, try updating your Burn routines to the latest available here

http://support2.magix.net/customer/en/download

- under Tools and others

These may seem stupid questions however:

What is the total run time of the audio you are trying to put on CD.

Are you using 80 minute CD - I think most are this size now?

The longest one is 68 minutes. They are recording old recordings I have transferred from audio tape. As I say, I can burn them using Nero but lose the track markings and I can't find a way of doing marking tracks with Nero. I've had no problem before: can't understand it. I will try the Burn update as you suggest.

Ron - Something for you to try... I have also gotten this same error when trying to burn a CD with Audio Lab 17, usually AFTER the CD has been burned. It happens with cheap CD-R's as well as high end JVC brand. What I've found is I only get the error when I've been burning DVD's with the same DVD/CD-R drive I'm now attempting to use to burn a CD. What works for me is to shut the computer completely off, wait 30 seconds, then restart the computer. The removal of power from the burner drive allows the buffer to clear and for me, at least, the problem goes away.

I'm running Audio Lab 17 on a Windows 7, 64 bit i7 quadcore computer. I've also looked for a new Burn Routine on the page suggested by johnebaker and it appears there aren't any for this program yet. I have MEP 17 and it runs and burns just fine.

Hi

The burn routines I pointed to are for all Magix programs - they are available under the Tools and others in the left pane. See image

Thanks for that Greg. I'm also using Audio Lab 17. As you say, in some cases it has actually burnt the CD but will not play! I've now got round the problem by exporting audio into separate tracks, which I have only just found out you have the option of doing. I then imported the tracks using Nero and transferred the tracks over and it worked without any problem. I also looked for updates on the burn routine as suggested but found nothing.

Next time I will try what you suggest and see what results I obtain. I am using printable CDs but haven't had any problem before.

Just an update on this persistant error being generated by MACL 17 Cannot write or close track -> (SK/ASC/ASCQ 02/B8/00).

I downloaded and installed the 2010 Burn routines and it did NOT help. I tried my own trick of turning off the computer for a minute and THAT had failed to stop the error. I tried having the software not check for errors on the CD with no luck. What I finally did was uninstalled and reinstalled my CD/DVD burner driver and now MACL 17 burns without generating an error.

Go to "Device Manager", click on CD/DVD Drives, right click on your CD drive and select "Uninstall". Reboot your computer. The drive will be re-detected and the software will automatically be reinstalled.

Hope this works for anybody else that is having trouble...
