The files I can't open are just small videos from my camera that I want to put onto one disc for family. They are avi files and I have already downloaded the codec that I am told I would need to open these files. I did read the other comment on this exact question but I couldn't find  MovieEdit.ini file to try to rename or delete it. Some of the other avi files have no problem. If I could get step by step help it would be much appreciated. I'm just starting to use my Movie edit program and am already stuck.

befly_b,

Which camera? Which codec? An .avi file is a 'container' that can have any manner of file formats within. Many use GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ and other locations) to check what going on.

Finding the ini file is in part a Windows issue. Depending on your operating system, eg XP or Vista or 7, use its search facility. There may be more than one associated with Magix but if you delete these the next time you open a Magix program it will recreate a default version that should pick up an codec changes.

Other .avi files may well work -- because they contain different file formats.

Hope this helps you on your way. More detail from you may help give a specific solution.

Regards,

Carl

Hi Carl,

I tried that GSpot to check the files and each one of them said that codecs were installed. Not sure what to do next???
