Error has occurred during export with an external video codec

RayGus wrote on 5/13/2019, 4:43 AM

Hi ,

I am using MEP Premium 2016 and have been exporting HEVC files (4k 50 fps) without problem.

Today I got the dreaded...

An error has occurred during export with an external video codec. Please check export settings (resolution, framerate, etc) and make changes if necessary. If problems persist, it is recommended to restore default settings.

I have followed the instructions above but they did not work.

It seems very odd that it has stopped working.

Can anyone help ior advise please...would be very grateful.

Thank you Ray

ps I can get screenshots of anything if that would help.

@RayGus

See if you have under 'File' the option to 'reset all settings' as you have probably played about with the encoder settings to a degree where it can't cope with the settings you have altered it to.

Many thanks CubeAce...I don't touch settings etc but tried what you said and reverted to default.

Unfortunately still no luck and same error message?

CubeAce wrote on 5/13/2019, 3:36 PM

Try checking when creating a new project that the frame rate and audio sampling rate are set to the same settings as the imported video files that you use.

If that fails, then try a different export format and see if another format works. If it does work then something has gone wrong with your export settings for that particular file format.

The more information you give us about your project, the more we may be able to pin down the fault.

Also check that your video files are not variable frame rate. MEP will not work with variable framerate files.

Many thanks CubeAce...I will check these things and really appreciate your help.

For the record what makes it strange is that I have not touched or changed anything and have regulalry made videos of exactly the same type etc without problem....

Anyway, will give it a try...thank you very much...appreciated.

Hi CubeAce...

I think you have solved it.

I have exported to MPEG 4 4K 25fps......it worked, no problem.

I have previously always done HEVC 4K 50fps

I am therefor wondering if when I imported I had the settings wrong......

I will be very careful with the next video and give that a try again and hopefully it will be ok...if not then I will have something wrong unfortunately....

I will let you know if it happens again and in the meantime thank you so much for your help which is much appreciated.

Very best wishes

Ray

@RayGus

So which one of @CubeAce's suggestions resolved it?

Were you able to export to HEVC 4K 50fps or only 25fps?

@Scenestealer

Neither. Ray used MPEG 4. Probably also kept to the same frame rate as the source video files.

I changed the export to 25 fps and it did the export. (I manually selected MPEG4 as well, instead of my usual preferred choice HEVC)

I am wondering if somehow I imported at 25 fps (do not know how, or if possible)

I am going to burn to disc next and will then try to export one that I have already done at 50fps and see what happens then.

Will let you know.

Best wishes Ray

@RayGus

Reading your last post and seeing you intend to "burn to disc", do bear in mind that your current mp4 file will have to be re-exported in MPEG-2 format if you mean you wish to create a DVD.

Confused......!

We started out talking about a problem of exporting an HEVC 4K 50 fps to file and now we are talking about an MPEG2 DVD 25fps disc...?

@CubeAce

If your suggestions did not help then why is your comment of 14/5/2019 marked as the solution?

Actually HEVC is still MPEG4 but using the H.265 codec instead of H.264.

@RayGus

I presume you are aware that the HEVC codec requires a fee based download and activation in MEP?

Hi Peter
I am aware that the HEVC codec requires a fee based download and activation in MEP and did that....

The ideas offered by Cubeace did in part solve the problem in that I have now exported to disk.....

I am now going to try an export of another movie which I have already successfully exported at 50 fps and see if it works...if it does I am going to assume I have done something wrong with the export I had a problem with...

If it will not export one, previously successfully exported, then I have a problem.

I have just tried again and I now see there is no 50fps 4K option......and this is on a file already exported at 50 fps previously, so I assume something has happened to Magix?

Any ideas please.

Thank you

Ray

RayGus wrote on 5/15/2019, 7:18 AM

The 50 FPS in 4K seems to have disappeared from all options....

RayGus wrote on 5/15/2019, 7:40 AM

Very odd....I have put another project in and it shows 50 fps....in 4K

I have changed export from main concept to default...BUT the other file, for some reason will not show the 50 fps option...
I will keep trying other options/files.

RayGus wrote on 5/15/2019, 9:25 AM

The 50 fps 4K option is appearing on other files but for some odd reason, not the one in question so I assume it must be something to do with that.

I will check properties of all imports and see if there is a clue there because it now seems to be working ok again, except for this one file.

Many thanks again to all

Ray

Scenestealer wrote on 5/15/2019, 7:48 PM

Hi Ray

I am therefor wondering if when I imported I had the settings wrong......

I have checked all versions I have for MEP and VPX and there does not appear to be any export preset (template) for HEVC 4K 50p either in "Display all" or in the Export Preset folder deep in C:\Program Data....... but I think I know what might be happening in your case. You can choose a 4K 25fps export template and change the fps in the export window that opens, to 50 by clicking on the button with the 3 dots and entering 50 manually, and this works for 50p export with or without HW acceleration. But the other thing which is more likely in your case is that if you select a 50p Movie Setting (E key) when you create the project, or maybe accept the prompt to change the movie settings to the 50p clip you are importing, the export HEVC box will by default open with an Fps to match the 50p Movie settings.

Hi Peter.

First of all many thanks again for your help...really appreciated.

I did not realise that the three dots allowed manual adjustment of frame rate so that is great...thank you for explaining.

I will in future try your suggestion i.e. opening the 50p movie setting etc when I create the project....the odd thing is that when I open other projects that I have previously exported to disc, I do get the 50 fps option...it appears automatically

However, I will in future use your suggestion which will hopefull resolve the problem.

Many thanks for your help....really appreciated as this was so frustrating.

Hi Ray

No problem it was an interesting exercise for me to pin down what the options were.

..the odd thing is that when I open other projects that I have previously exported to disc, I do get the 50 fps option...it appears automatically.

The other thing is that when you save and close a project it remembers your last export settings which appear when you reopen the project and choose Export to HEVC, or whatever, but if you create a new project then the Fps chosen in the Movie Settings appears to transfer to the export template automatically.

Cheers

Hio Peter,

Didn't expect to be back but if failed again...
Completely new video.

4K
50FPS

I wanted to export as HEVC and the options came up as per the screenshot below...

But again I got the error message..

An error has occurred during export with an external video codec. Please check export settings (resolution, framerate, etc) and make changes if necessary. If problems persist, it is recommended to restore default settings.

I am now at a total loss as to what is causing this...

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Peter...

One further thing that might help...

It will allow export using MPEG4 at 50fps 4k...but not if I try to export as HEVC

Could the codec for HEVC be the problem?

Thanks

Ray

Very odd though as it has been working fine previously (dozens of videos exported etc)

@RayGus

I noticed on your last uploaded picture that the template is showing it as 'User Defined' which normally means the settings have been changed from the standard settings used for that codec for that export setting. That could have a lot to do with the export coming up with with an error message. Open that dialogue box and select a preset closest to your needs and see if that works.

There is no 50fps 4K option....

It seems to have disappeared but was there before...
