Atomic wrote on 8/3/2024, 7:35 PM

I just downloaded Magix studio suite 2025 as an update to movie studio 13, anyway so far as I am trying to edit my project it if very laggy. For example when I try to add media to the line it doesnt drop right away or if I try to play the preview the video doesn't start right away. Has anyone had this problem before? All my pc specs are above mins.

@Atomic Hi, I'm guessing that is Vegas Movie Studio 13? .. If so Vegas Movie Studio & Magix Movie Studio are completely different programs, there was no upgrade from one to the other, there was never any relation between the two whatsoever. Read my comment on this post https://www.magix.info/us/forum/no-audio-in-preview-after-one-hour-of-clip--1340430/#ca1945054

The closest or correct update from Movie studio 13 is to the latest Vegas Pro, if you want you can download the Vegas Pro Trial here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/gb/vegas-pro/ & if you want to it may be possible to reverse or alter your purchase.

If you wish to continue with Magix Movie Studio you need to share a few things -

Your computer specifications?

Can you click your icon at the top of this page - My Profile & fill in your Signature with the full name of your CPU, GPU & amount of RAM, also inc the Windows & Magix version, this will then show at the bottom of your comments,

What type of media are you using?

There's an App called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo.
After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, drag the edges of the window that pops up so it shows all the information & screen capture that page, post that image on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment 👍

Or Copy & paste the information in a new comment like this -

Let me rephrase my post, I was not doing an update but buying an upgraded product. I used to use Sony Movie Studio platinum 13 but wanted to get new software. I am trying to pull png and jpeg, photos to the media line and it is lagging. there is a literal delay when dragging my media down to the timeline. Or if I am trying to play audio once it finally gets on the timeline there is a delay before the audio starts to play

my specs,

Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz   3.70 GHz
Installed RAM    32.0 GB
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

windows 10 home.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070

@Atomic Ok I'll repeat my comment, Magix Movie Studio is not an upgrade or an update from Sony Vegas Movie Studio platinum 13, they are completely different programs & have never been be associated or related in any way.

If you have bought Magix Movie Studio then you have bought brand new software,

As far as I can tell your PC is good enough to be doing what you're asking, check your graphics drivers are up to date.

Where s your media stored, is it on a separate hard drive, maybe an external one?

@Atomic you may want to try changing your hardware acceleration to see if that improves performance on your machine. File/Settings/Program/Device Options

@Atomic

Hi

Your computer specs are almost identical to my PC, the only difference is I have a RTX 2060.

As you are working with images only, the Preview should start almost immediately. there are several potential causes of the lags you are seeing - check the following:

  1. Windows settings, Ease of Access, Text cursor, Text cursor indicator is turned off

  2. The GPU drivers are up to date - for the Intel UHD630 the latest version is 31.0.101.2128 and for the RTX 2070 - 560.70 (32.0,15,6070)

  3. Movie Studio 2025 program settings, Device options tab, Import, Processing and Export options are set to the RTX 2070

Do note if you start working with video then there can be a short delay of up to 3 secs before preview playback starts depending on the complexity of the project timeline, effects applied and resolution the source video, while the preview cache is loaded with the processed video.

Hello and welcome to the user to user forums.

If your project is consisting mainly of still images and a separate sound track then the main cause of a lag between hitting the play button and it playing is the settings used in the program settings for playback. First make sure you have selected wave driver for the driver selection. Also the more buffers and samples set, the worse the lag will become. In the same playback section make sure the Display box in the Arranger section is ticked and in the Video playback area that the Overload optimization for realtime playback is also ticked.

I'm pretty sure that sound in the program gets sent directly to the motherboard ram in blocks that have to be loaded and released in sequence and increasing the amount of buffers and samples increases the amount of ram used in each block. Hence the increasing amount of delay.

Also if you are importing soundtracks from other sources. particularly wav files they are best at 16 bit at 48kHz. Again that keeps the amount of data transfer to a minimum but as I have a similar setup to yourself and @johnebaker I can say 24 bit files at 48kHz are also fairly reasonable in use.

Too many buffers and sample rates as an extreme example.

The result.

Many less buffers and sample rates but may need increasing slightly if you experience any crackles or unpleasant sound during playback. Start with only increasing the samples one increased selection at a time and leave the buffers alone to start with. If that doesn't work then increase the buffers by one but then go back to minimising the sample to around 2048 samples and then if that doesn't work then increase the samples bit by bit. Remember just increasing the buffers and samples at random can have undesirable results. Especially if the motherboard ram is slow by today's standards. Even if you have fast ram it may be throttled back in use by the CPU / motherboard combination.

The result.
