i have the following program:
"C:\Program Files\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Premium\2020\Videodeluxe.exe"
so i'm not sure if this is the right place to ask how to edit an upright android video in MEP?
As i import the video from my sony xperia 5 ii, the image format probably needs to be changed beforehand in MEP, so the image doesn't lay on its side, right?

Assuming you final video is also in Portrait format, see this tutorial on working with portrait video from a mobile device, the rotation may correct automatically, if not then use the Rotation effect to orient the image correctly and Size & Position to adjust to fit full screen.
If you are putting portrait video into a landscape project and video then you either have to accept having the black bars left/right or section the video to fit full screen, or add an effect, to put a background image, from the video clip, instead of black bars under Templates, Design elements, Image border effects basic.
