Welcome to the Sound Forge community @David-Hopper

What specifically were you attempting to do? Does this error message appear frequently, and on different files types?

Hi Rick, thanks for your answer. Yes, I left out I was editing the waveform then I wanted to save the file as an MP3. The waveform was originally in a *.m4a format. So it was clicking on the Save As function that generated the error message. Ideas?

HI David, I can't think of anything off-hand for the error message, but there are two options you can try as a work-around.
- Save the edited file as a PCM <.wav> file. Then encode an MP3 from that.
- Open the <.m4a> file in the proxy mode, which is similar to the above, but does not create a saved intermediate file. "Options> Preferences> General" Check-mark the "Always proxy compressed formats" .
