Editing a video from Sony PMB to Magix Movie Edit Pro 17

I am trying to make a video for a community organization involving video we filmed at our events.  I filmed with my HandyCam and loaded the videos onto PMB, I then bought Magix Movie Edit 17 to put the film together.  I can't seem to be able to load the videos from PMB to Magix.  I did download a codec but it didn't seem to do anything but play some footage from dvds that we had made.  Help!!!!  (Now you know why my name is newbie)

Hi

You do not say which Sony camera do you have however if it records to memory card or internal storage eg hard drive or memory, then you do not need to use PMB.

If you connect the camera to your computer by USB, when you power up the camera you should get another drive appear in Windows Explorer.  You can navigate this drive and locate the video files and still image files on the camera and copy them to a folder on your computer.

You can then point MEP to this folder on the computer.

DO NOT try using the files on the camera and pointing MEP to them.  You will not be able to edit the movie when the camera is disconnected.

The movies are no longer on my camera they are in my computer but also what do I do about the DVDs given to me by others to add into my final product?

Hi

Launch PMB and look at its settings to see where it is storing the files. You should then be able to point MEP to this folder or create a new folder and copy the files there for use in MEP.

Make sure you have a good backup(s) of the video/image files.  I normally leave mine on camera until I have mine safely backed up to DVD or external hard drive (depends on quantity of files)
