I don't have a CD player on my new laptop, how can I download the Video Easy software? I tried loading the original Serial number, in the online tool, but it wasn't recognised.
Since you already have a serial key you can download the Free Trial version of Video Easy from here. Once installed, simply enter the key and your email address on the registration screen to activate and register it.
it still didn’t like my old serial number, could it be because my version is P2 ?
Yes!
Serial keys beginning P2 are for very old versions, sorry.
In this situation you could try emailing customer support at infoservice@magix.net to ask if they can give youa download link to whichever version you had previously. But you really ought to consider upgrading to the most recent version, except I see from the product page that it is now "sold out"! And my understanding is that it is not going to be replaced.
I think that ultimately you may need to consider buying "new" software. If you tell us what your usage of the product entails we may well be able to advise which current product is most suitable for you.
If you are stuck and really need the program, why not buy an external CD of DVD player? Or if you still have your old machine copy the files from the CD to an SD card.
Jeff, I have managed to get the trail version of the software to work and saved some VHS video files with the mxv extension, I now need a product from MAGIX that will allow me to edit and export my converted VHS files , mpeg ?
Depending on the level of video editing capablities you need:
Video Easy has basic editing features, moving up through PhotoStory, Movie Studio 2023 and Video Pro X, all import the MXV file and are of increasing cost and features.
You can download and install trial versions of the increasingly more advanced and featured editors to find which suits you best.
David, I don't have the Video Easy software installed but the manual describes exporting the MXV to MP4, accessed through the "Finish Movie" button. The trial may be limited to a reduced video length.
You can also individually edit (trim) your video objects/clips. I suggest you have a browse through the Help or the PDF manual. As I cannot work out how to get it off the Magix website, here is the VideoEasy 7 manual on Google Drive:
-Video Easy/Video Saver/Rescue My Videotapes isn't available for download here in Australia either. I suspect it's on the way out.
-It seems that Video Easy does not have Timeline editing mode, only Storyboard mode. If you intend to do a fair amount of this stuff, Timeline mode is far easier and productive for fine editing. You'll need to get Magix Movie Studio for that. In my view, having used Magix for many years, and having had a dabble at Video Pro X, you don't need it. Movie Studio will do the job nicely and will work with your VideoEasy dongle. If you do decided to buy, get Premium or Suite. The basic version is missing some features.
You have answered my other question, about the Videoeasy Dongle I’m using to convert from my VHS player, good to hear I can keep using that with the other software options from Magix
Yes I do, it is an older KWorld device with 32 and 64 bit Win 10 drivers, running on Win 11, and it works with Movie Studio.
Any USB video capture device that has the correct drivers installed, from either Windows or the manufacturer, in both 32 and 64 bit forms, is and recognised, then they should be usable by Movie Studio, Video Easy etc.
Correction:iIn my previous post I missed out the word 'Easy' in the 2nd paragraph - now corrected to read Video Easy
If I buy the download version of Studio 2023, can I load it on to more than one computer, ideally I want to able to use it on either my laptop or IMac. I don’t have a CD/DVD player on either device.
MMS can be installed on as many computers as you wish but can be activated on a maximum of 2 at any one time. It is possible to transfer activations "relatively" easily though there are limitations to the number of times per month this can be done.
However, in your case, you mention iMac; all Magix video editing software is Windows only so you would need something like Bootcamp and a Windows partition on your iMac in order to be able to run the program on that machine.
I have now downloaded the studio 2023 successfully and have to tried to transfer video from my VHS player. Unfortunately there is an issue with the red Magix grabber, the software doesn’t recognize the device. I have tried to reload drivers but that hasn’t helped, any suggestions? The red grabber works fine with the video easy software trial version
Jeff I am selecting Analog in the bottom right, on the next screen ‘Video Recording’ the Video Device is Magix USB Videograbber 2 (usb - DShow) and Audio is Magix USB Videograbber 2 (WDM). The blue light on top of the USB lights up , but the error dialogue box reads ‘ Movie Studio - Could not connect to device’.
Using MMS the workflow for capturing and creating video to other formats is:
Capture the video, the recording format does not particulary matter as VHS video is relatively low resolution - approximately 333×480 pixels for NTSC and 335×576 pixels for PAL VHS - the MXV format reduces the load on your computer for the next steps.
Edit and adjust the video eg add a little sharpening, set the audio levels, clean the audio etc.
Export the timeline/project to the required format or create a DVD disc.
I would not recommend exporting/upscaling of the video to any resolution higher than DVD specification 720 * 480 (NTSC) or 720 * 576 (PAL), the image will become blocky and poor quality.
If you are capturing a lot of VHS tapes, and you are not satisified with the noise levels I would recommend getting Neat Video denoiser - paid for, several users in the forum, including myself, use this plug-in.
If you have not done so, download the MMS manual - it is available under Help for download.
David, I don't have a Magix grabber, but can confirm that direct-to-MPEG works OK in MMS 2023 with my third-party grabber, so probably the driver for the Magix grabber is creating the issues with the "quality" settings.
In addition to @johnebaker's comments, also use the Section effect to trim off the rough edges and the head switching noise at the bottom.
I do not agree with him on the resolution; I have upscaled VHS captures to 1920x1440 with no degradation; in my opinion it is as good, if not better than leaving the files as 720x576 (for PAL). I use 1920x1440 to force Youtube to encode using the better VP9 codec but limit my normal upscaling to 1440x1080. That said, (my) LG TV upscales very well; the main factor in quality is bitrate.
