download pauses... yes, I have disabled both the anti virus & defender

R.R. wrote on 7/17/2021, 3:14 AM

My computer crashed, had to rebuild it...computer has a Ryzen 5, RTX 3080, 32 G of ram, using Firefox. I had Movie Edit Pro on it and am trying to re-install it. All the other programs loaded with no problem...Movie Edit Pro, keeps on pausing and does not load. I see numerous posts with the similar problem with various programs and the most common answer is disable any anti virus and window defender programs...which I have done. I have checked my Windows program and it says it is fully up to date. Yet, the installer program keeps pausing... And yes, I have followed the instructions and uploaded the Mircosoft Net software as per the Magix intstructions. What am I missing?

@R.R.

Hi

The program installation is in 3 parts,

  1. download the Download Manager (DLM) and run this

If it is the DLM that pauses, then it is best to do nothing else on the computer, this does occur and is usually caused by an interruption. Only have the DLM running while downloading the main part of the program.

  2. the DLM then downloads the program before installation begins.

If the main program installation is failing - check that you have fully disabled your antivirus - most AV's have at least 2 features that need stopping eg Folder protection, Ransomware protection and Real time scanning.

  3. download the extra content

    Same as for item 1

Hi RR.

A few thoughts of questions to ask but at this point pure guesses.

Dare I ask how much free C: drive space do you have?

Was it a completely new install of Win 10? Is it up to date including all drivers?

Do you already have the nvidia game driver installed? Do you have the nvidia DCH studio driver installed?

Are you trying to install the program to another drive?

Have you run an internet speed test to see your download speed?

There seems to have been some Magix server maintenance going on the past few days. Maybe see if it will download later.

Ray.

Hi.

Try uninstalling the nvidia game drivers for now and install the nvidia DCH studio driver that video editing programs work with. The two drivers don't play nicely with each other.

@R.R. @johnebaker

Have you de-registered your previous installs?

If so, the only thing I can think of is under the terms and conditions you are only allowed one change of installation per month and you may have exceeded that.

Either way I think it is time to raise a ticket and contact Magix direct. They may be able to give you a direct download link that works.

To contact Magix directly use the support section above and keep using the contact support box of the two choices each step until you get to the contact directly to Magix box. It helps to get there quicker to type in a random word in the search box when the search box appears.

As it is the weekend you may have to wait for a reply.

Hi Ray

For Magix programs I have not had to de-register before installing.

If you have used your 2 activation slots, when you install again, eg on a rebuild or a third computer then a message popped up saying that an installation needs de-activating clicking the option to do so in the message took you to your account to login and then de-activate an installation.

Hi,

It may be that a patch was not uninstalled and that this is blocking installation. MicroSoft has a tool that will remove the patch as well. Unfortunately, I can't find it. Perhaps @johnebaker knows where it is.

Run it and make sure that there are no MEP patches for the same version still on the computer. Then try installing.

Hello Everyone..... Here is a copy of the latest reply from Magix Technical support. Have not had time to try it, posting it for everyone's benefit.

"... it would appear the installation manager is having problems with the download of the actual main program installer, probably due to not being able to connect from your system to our servers properly. If you've already tried to rule out conflicts with the local security related software on the computer, this online connectivity problem might be due to disabled protocols in your Windows/Internet Explorer settings.

Our program uses the Internet Explorer API for the online communication modules. Therefore, this is relevant to our program's functionality, as well as your general system functionality and security. You will need to manually adjust something in the Windows/IE Internet settings. Please go to the system's Control Panel and proceed to "Internet Options". Switch to the "Advanced" tab and find the "Security" section in the long list of checkboxes. Among other things you will find entries for the different Internet communication protocols here.

Please check whether the options TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are ticked. If that is not the case, please enable/tick these options and confirm your settings. Then try the download again. If the problem persists, please send a screenshot of the dialogue described here, showing the relevant TSL protocol settings. Thanks.

If you're still not getting on with the download/installation, there's one more aspect we have discovered that seems to have helped in such a situation: A crucial operating system service that should be running by default had been disabled. In order to check this, please bring up the Windows "Computer Management", e.g. by opening the Windows Start menu, right-clicking on "Computer" and choosing "Manage". In the Computer Management screen, navigate to the "Services and Applications" section on the left-hand side and proceed to the "Services" sub section. Find the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" in the alphabetic list of services and check whether the status for this service is "started". If not, right-click on this entry and start/resume it. Then try the program download/installation again.

I hope this helps."

Thank you for supplying this information. If it works please come back and let us know. It could be useful to help another query in the future. Also glad to see you got a reply from Magix so soon.

I have always used Firefox as my web-browser and have never encountered this problem. I am also using Windows 10 Enterprise so maybe the web protocols are different on instillation.

Good luck.
