Hi Gid.

Bit rate                                 : 1 057 Mb/s

That's an incredibly large bit rate for a 4K video file. If it is a UHD file I can't play some of those. Like files from Black Magic cameras.

I doubt my drives even work at that speed.

[Edit]

What happens when I try to play the file in VLC player.

It would crash my system if I left the player open as it loops the file over and over.

Hi Gid.

Hi.

It does look like M8RA files are a shorthand code for the Magix 8 Bit RGBA codec taking the first and last letters from the Red/Green/Blue/Alpha channel encodings and is a part of the Vegas suite.

Hi,

I tried the AVI file and it asks to install the CODEC M8RA which is available in the K-Lite CODEC pack. I don't particularly want to install the K-Lite pack as John EB has advised against it in the past.

As for the MOV file that you mentioned, does it contain transparency?

Your png images have been added to my Masks and other images folders. Thank you!

To use them more effectively, try adding some blur or artistic blur in MEP.

@Apollo89x

I got Red Giant Knoll Light Factory with MEP 2015 Premium. It would probably do the job. I have to now install MEP2015 Premium on my new computer, just to be able to install the Red Giant effects. I should have done this first. Noted for next time.

Other possibilities:

  • HitFilm Toolkit Pack HitFilm Light Rays that came with MEP or VPX.
  • There are probably some NewBlue effects that would work.

As for After Effects, that is an expensive proposition. BluffTitler does much of the same for a fraction of the price and without the overhead and lengthy rendering times.

 Hi, the M8RA codec must have come with MagicYUV because as far as i'm aware i haven't consciously installed K-Lite CODEC pack,

& sorry the mention of ,mov in my comments was a mistake, i was getting a bit mixed up trying to work & play on my system during breaks, i did render the glints as a .mov at one point but i don't think i uploaded it to Google & share it, it was only the MagicYUV .avi I shared & @CubeAce couldn't play, just like you it asks for that codec,

The png's i shared are just still images rendered from that .avi that doesn't play on yours but if i do render something like that as Quicktime mov with .png or .tiff it loads onto my MEP, if i choose MIX from the Chroma settings, it shows as if it has a transparent background (but so does a jpg & mp4 😏)

I can't upload a screenshot at the moment for some reason

@CubeAce Oh yeah 👍 I use this MagicYUV occasionally just for the transparency & always use the 8-bit RGBA, it works so never really dig any deeper but I'll experiment with the others one day 👍

Former user wrote on 2/15/2022, 5:20 AM

Hi, I tried rendering a 0.10sec event with Mocha applied creating a transparent mask box on the screen grab of MEP, using RGBA & YUVA 4:4:4:4,

RGBA rendered in 1.41mins, 1.25GB file
YUVA 4:4:4:4 rendered in 2.55mins, 1.23GB file size,
for me both load into MEP & Vegas,
From what I know about 4:4:4:4, I can't see any difference on screen,
so i will stick to the RGBA  faster render times,
unless there's a reason i'm better using 4:4:4:4?

CubeAce wrote on 2/15/2022, 6:45 AM

@Former user

Hi Gid.

If you have a camera capable of capturing 4K 10 bit log files (or Pro res) and a corresponding 4K or 8K 10 bit 100% colour accurate, calibrated monitor, then 4:4:4:4 encoding would make a lot of sense to preserver that amount of data. Recording at that level of detail without that amount of data would result in large files with a lot of unused space within the file.

I normally film in what my phone calls 4k 3840x2160, but this is one i forgot to turn it back from 8k after trying it out, I don't use 8k, partly because it's unnecessary for Youtube but also because the wide angle doesn't work in 8k, i tend to film indoors & the wide angle is a must,

8k video defaults to HEVC. i have no choice about that. It's still 8 bit - 4:2:0

@Former user

Hi Gid.

Those files wouldn't need that type of conversion at the bit rates you are using to produce your M8RA files

Cameras that could take advantage would be the RED range and upwards (Think Black Magic or Kinefinity) that can record RAW, Log, or Pro Res files at up to 323MB/s. There's no harm in doing it other than producing needlessly large files, only a waste of disc space by about ⅔rds extra of what you would need to still have a lossless copy. If you don't keep the files beyond the project life then there is little downside to it.

Ray.

@CubeAce Yep, for me, Vegas & MEP just using the basic 8-bit RGBA is fine, it works 👍
