If your video has been recorded with a 5.1 soundtrack it will only show as a stereo mix in the timeline. To access and edit the individual tracks you need to right click the video soundtrack in track 2 and select "Extract sound channels" and 3 stereo (6)channels will appear in tracks 2 to 4. Make sure that you open the mixer (M) and select 5.1 surround at top right and if your PC 5.1 speakers are active in the Windows sound preferences then you will hear the discreet channels ( and see the different waveforms on the 3 tracks if you Rt. click the tracks and "create waveform").

When you export your movie or create a DVD or Bluray make sure you use an export preset that uses 5.1 surround sound.

You may have to activate the Dolby digital 5.1 codec with Magix via the program if you have not previously done so.
