Latest updated yesterday,

Had a play with it, MP4 3840x2160, as far as i'm concerned Section is still useless

Greetings,

Quite agree, Section is still as naff in 119 as it was in the previous patches.

One thing I have noticed in 119 though is if I click on undo the reset section returns to it's set state - if you see what I mean. I don't know if this happened in 116 or earlier but at least it's a bit of a work-round.

@me_again I'm not quite sure what you mean, but i'm pretty sure in the past, don't know how long ago, when there was an fx on the event, the Reset video effects option was black, that told me that there was some kind of fx still on that event, click the Reset video effects listing, the event reset itself & the Reset video effects option turned grey to show no fx's were present, I might be wrong but now it is always black, 🤷‍♂️

this pic is with no fx's on the event.

Greetings @Former user

Having reread the post I can understand why you're not quite sure what I mean. It;s not so much resetting a video effect as clicking the Undo button when the section has become a full picture again after using size or camera zoom.

Hi Guys

Finally found sometime to make a short video of the problem.

I have also made the Video Files available for anyone that wishes to give a test out themselfs.

VHS SAMPLES (DV-AVI Type 2) Captured with Canopus ADVC-100 Via Firewire.

Smart Rendered from one long VHS Captured Tape (Trimmed with MEP 2022) to retain original quality. Files are Zipped don't worry if it says that it can't scan for viruses due to the file size, as I think this is a limit of Google.

Let me know if you have any trouble downloading and unzipping and I will upload them seperately.

Feel free to have a try out with cropping and centering like I am trying to do in the video and let me know if you come up with a work around better way. Ideally I am wanting to keep the original video size but just pad out over the top with black to clean up the edges and then recenter it dead centre in the Standard Def (SD) Frame 720x576 PAL.

I understand that one can also crop and resize the video to fit the frame but I don't want to scale up the video being VHS the quality isn't so great for scaling up albiet it a small amount.

Anyway hope I have managed to explain the problem well enough.

Greetings @Beardeboss

Hmm, if I've read your post correctly (and surmised from your video), you want to crop the video to remove the noise from the edges, centralise the subsequent video but not increase the video to full frame size.

It's a fairly simple job albeit requiring a good memory or, as in my case a pencil and paper. I do agree however that a "centralise" button should be available however the attached video should show you the steps I think you need to do.

1 - crop the video

2 - make a note of the resulting new dimensions and ENSURE "Fullscreen is checked.

3 - Click on Camera/Zoom shot - don't do anything here.

4 - Click on Size.Position/Rotation and enter the figures copied in 2 either by scrolling or keyboard input and the picture should be centralised with a narrow black surround.

If you do need to go back into Section again you will need to click the UNDO arrow (far left centre) twice. This will reset the Section to your previous selection.

If this isn't what you are trying to do then apologies for wasting your time.

@Beardeboss Hi, you need to keep the Fullscreen option ticked if you want it to fill the screen after you've cropped the image, use the Preview button to see the result of the section/crop, If you use Free Proportions you'll get black bars down the side & will prob have to stretch the video in Size/Position/Rotation,

But on mine i can't keep the Section 'stick', when it plays it shows the section but when you press stop it goes full screen, If Size/Position/Rotation is already in the fx tree, even if no change has been made, Section won't stick at all, I have to remove that to do a section/crop first,,,, To be honest it's a bit messed up, that's what this thread is about & you'll find it hard to learn this at the mo 😕

If you're struggling to grab the size handles on screen, click+hold Control & use the mouse wheel to zoom the preview in & out, or use the hamburger menu top right of the preview 50%, 75%, 100%..

I use the KISS principle: I use Keep Proportions and Full Screen, crop the edges away then centre the remaining section, then export. I lose a little more on some edges but I never end up with any black borders (which are annoying when playing on a computer screen). Any slight upscaling is unnoticeable. In fact, I take my VHS captures up to 1080P in MEP and they look great on my whopper TV.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
