Hi

Access violation usually happens when a program (not necessarily the one you are using at the time of the error)  attempts to access a memory location that it is not allowed to access or there is a potential hardware failure emerging

The problem is that this could be any program running on the computer eg Antivirus, background Windows tasks and any other software running on the PC.

The fault is going to be difficult and time consuming to trace because it may not be MEP that is causing the issue.

Often a reboot of the computer will fix the issue.

If you get repeated access violation errors after rebooting then the first steps are to carry out some housekeeping on the PC eg run Windows disc cleanup, run a good Registry Cleaner program eg CCleaner.

Check for viruses and spamware, look at browser addons / toolbars which run in the background and try to access the Internet such as Cool Web Search. My Web Search and similar 'browser addons' are notorious for this

If you are technically savvy - check that the processor fan and heatsink are clear of dust, reseat the memory chips and connectors to peripherals.

As I said there is no easy way of finding the fault.

HTH

John

Thanks johnebaker - in the end, i bought a new computer (and a far far better one). That issue is now resolved.

However, i now have MEP16 pro - and it seems to resist downloading the expansion pakc that it tells me is required to import MTs files. It appears to connect, but fails to download anything. If i got ot Help and install extra software, it shows i need the mpeg 2 codec... but all i get when i click to install is a flickering download window which then aborts becasue, it says, i already have it installed or there is some 'other issue'. BUT, if its laready installed, then i should get an audio track and it wouldnt appear in the extra software required box (i ahve clicked hide installed prgrammes).

I have both Magix programmes installed, ebacsue they have different functions that i need.  Color fast has installed sucessfully in 14 ultimate -but the ProDad plug-in just will not install. My Pc specs exceed tehe required specs -so its abit frustating not to be able to use the full range of plug-ins that came with the package.
