Corrupt program

jmcguire wrote on 1/23/2013, 4:08 PM

Something may be wrong with my MEP 2013. First, I have a project that does not open properly and I receive an error message to shut down.  But what is even weirder is that my new project will burn to dvd different footage than what is edited or even previewed in the DVD screen.

More specifically on the latter problem, I have imported a video file from a DVD into the Arranger.  I then split the file in two.  I lessen the length of both parts and then butt them together.  I then burn this to another DVD.

What happens?  The dvd plays the first scene but then at the cut point, continues playing the non-visible part one, not part two! But it plays the sound from part two.  Help!

Hi

Han you checked the timelime and all tracks for stray objects which should not be there?

How many Movie tabs do you have in the project?

Can you post a screenshot of the timeline.

Thanks

John

No stray objects. Only one movie tab. Here is a screen shot. I bet I need to reinstall the program. Thanks!

Just a quick check... Your screen shot shows you're seeing only a fraction of the entire project at the current zoom level. If you show all using the <==> icon at the bottom right do you see what you expect? (Or from 'Zoom' dropdown menu, or [Ctrl + 8] keyboaard short cut IIRC)

I zoomed in and checked but I want to emphasize that the timeline is fine. And when you preview from the Burn DVD menu, it plays like it was edited.  But the DVD burns differently.

John no doubt can say better, but I wonder if the issue is having 'Smart render' etc where files from a previous burning session are being used. A great feature if you don't want to re-encode scenes in your current project but they can cause problems. Try saving your project with a new name, make sure smart render is turned off, and do a fresh burn.

Hi

'John no doubt can say better, but I wonder if the issue is having 'Smart render' etc'

In this particular instance I think this has a low probabilty as it has been found ** that you need to meet all these  conditions

1.  A  NVidia CUDA enabled graphics card.

2   Exporting to mp4 format.

3.  Hardware acceleration must be turned on

4.  Selecting Calculate video effects on GPU on the Export dialog

**  Many thanks to Terry for his dedication in isolating most of this problem - I only added no 4 after I got a NVidia card.

I have a suspicion we are seeing corruption of the project for some reason.  Therefore I would suggest a complete reset of the programs default settings - File, Settings, Reset program settings to default.

Or better still use Windows Explorer, to search for, and delete the videodeluxe.ini file - this is a hidden file and you will find at least 3 of them - the one to delete has the largest filesize,  then start MEP

You will lose any customised settings you have made with both these options.

Try creating a new project and see if the problem is fixed.  I would not recommend loading the previous projects because if they are corrupt then you will get the problems all over again.

John,

I don't know which one fixed it but I did both: reset and deleted videodeluxe.ini files.

Thank you so much!
