Compatibility with Dell 15 - 3521

Hi there

Just bought this laptop (Win8) which has a combo jack on it. I am trying to record my old tapes with MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab 2013

Problem is: when I plug the tape player to the Dell with the jack cable, I am unable to record any sound on the computer . Have checked the sound control board which could allow me to activate the microphone, but it doesnt show any additional microphone plugged to the computer, apart from the one next to the webcam

I have already seen this post on the Dell website (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19507152.aspx) which clearly demonstrates that we cannot get the line in working without an adaptor.

However, the question I have regarding this subject is wether this adaptor would be suitable for recording music with Magix? Has any of you guys got a similar issue? Should i be buying USB adaptor instead?

Thanks

P

Hi

I would use an audio to USB converter and forget the combi audio jack - you will get better quality sound.  Any good converter should work with the laptop.

The combi input is the same as those used for mobile phone earphones/mic style ear sets.
