Compatibility - Sony DCR TRV25E, Windows 7, Movie Edit Pro MX

I have an old but good Sony camcorder that I have enabled USB streaming on and a Windows 7 computer, the computer will interface with the camera via the USB port but Movie Edit Pro MX will not recognise my camera or allow me to import fottage from the camera to the programme.  How do I cure this?  I have searched for a driver but drawn a blank.

Hi

Presumably when you say you have enable USB streaming you are doing his usin the iLink output of the camera?

If this is so then you cannot do this directly with MEP - iLink = Firewire = IEEE1394 so you would need a Firewire port and cable for the camera then MEP should recognise it.

IIRC the software that comes with the camera installs drivers and lets you transfer the video from the camera to the PC via USB.

Once this is done then you can load the video into MEP. from your PC and edit it.

Dear John, Thanks for the observations but unfortunatley they dont really help - in particular (and dealing wth your points in the order they appear in your reply);

1. Yes - I activated the USB streaming by going through the menu on the camera and manually turning on the streaming function - this caused the Acer to 'recognise' the camera - but not permit streaming to the desktop,.

2. Unfortunatley my Acer desktop computer has no IEEE 1394 port (even though its just a few months old).

3.  I have the original Sony disc that came with the camera and it has a USB driver - despite several attempts I cant get the Acer to accept the usb driver from the disc (though two other programmes from the same disc could be loaded to the Acer).

Kind regards

Mark

Hi Mark

Thanks for your reply.  The software you have is not compatable with Windows 7. AFAIK there is no Windows 7 compatable software/drivers for this camera.

You have 2 options

1.  You can install a Firewire PCI card and obtain the correct cable to go from the camera DV port to the Firewire port (Sony's cable part no is VMC-IL4635).  MEP should then recognise the camera and let you capture directly into itself and give you the ability to control the tape as well.

2. Get a USB video converter and capture through this into MEP - 2 things to note

a - you will have to stop start the tape playback using the camera

b - make sure the converter does not pass the audio through to your sound card for capture ie it must be one like this

Option 1 is the best as you are letting MEP do the capture.
