Friends I would love to knw, can one do both the Colour and B/W effect together with MEF 18 like that in the link. If yes, can someone please guide me as well.

Best Regards.

Hi Anirban,

I just watched the video and tried it in a quick scene and here is what I came up with using just MEP

If this is what you are looking for,

Here is a good tutorial from magix on how to do it.

Hey Anriban,

I thought the Magix youtube video was actually very good.  It helped me do this quickly without having to spend a lot of time thinking though how to do it.  Maybe it did not reasonate with you because of the way it was recorded, but I did like it very much.

I know, you just like my step by step approach that shows the whole process or maybe you just like the way I explain it better complete with ums and ahs because I don't actually script these short videos LOL

You can see my version here and if you want to know how to tweak it a little, let me know.

Hi George,

By coincidence I viewed that Magix tutorial yesterday and made a mental note to come back to it later. Because that Color Correction effect dialog (and Color too) have always been obscure to me. Then this morning I viewed your version, which I preferred.

That's largely because I prefer tutorials with either a spoken narrative or clear text captions. With time to study them, or at least get to the Pause button or Space key before they disappear!

In fact, I tend to favour 'still' tutorials based on screenshots, rather than videos, for that reason. The reader can study each step at leisure, and quality is typically higher so that text and icon details are clearer. They're harder to make but overall a better learning medium IMO.

Going back to the Magic video tutorial, nor do I think background music helps. It's fine in a long video if there are captions to study, but otherwise redundant at best, or a distraction at worst.

Experimenting with Color Correction myself just now in MEP 2013, one key point seems to be that the chosen clip should be one with strong contrasts of colour distinguishing 'foreground' and 'background'. With most of my tests the result was a mess because that wasn't the case, i.e. there were common colours in both areas.

@terry and Anirban,

When I do these videos I don't have a lot of time to do all the screen captures to get the level of quality up in a short time window,  which I would do if I could ever figure out a way to get through the Magix tutorial edit process to post them in the tutorial section.  I agree that there is a much better way to do formal tutorials but most of what I post on YouTube is really an answer to a specific question, and I pretty much record the event as I do it in my workflow.  I probably should reconsider how I generate these mini tutorials in order to improve quality and consistency, and I definitely have no intention of adding a splashy sound track in the background .

Anirban seems to reasonate with this approach but to really make them appeal to a more users, maybe I should go back and re-do some material as you suggested.  This could also help users who may not be fully fluent in English.

I am actually pleased and flattered that you preferred my version.  I actually liked the Magix version although it was more "corporate" than grass roots "here is how I do this"  which is my approach.  I could actually put in my company logo with a flashy intro but that is really not me when I am answering questions on the forum LOL.  Besides I am not here to recruit clients, just to share knowledge and experience.

Again thank you for the suggestions and I will look at how to take these mini tutorial to the next level.

@Anirban, please do not think we are trying to hijack your post.  I do many of these in response to your questions so your thoughts would be appreciated.

George,

From my brief experience with Show & Discuss I thought the Tutorial submission would also be too much hassle. But John recently suggested I try one to turn my recent post about basic titles into a formal tutorial. I found it's not too bad.

While still in the mood I did four more over the last couple of days. Mostly PDFs made in Word or, as of today, in OpenOffice or LibreOffice which I think I'm going to prefer. If you decide to give it a try, let me know if you need any help.
