color correction: red and black

cmroberson wrote on 3/23/2012, 5:40 PM

Hey there,

I'm trying to achieve a color-correction effect in a dream sequence, in which I need to make flourescent lights appear red instead of white.

I've tinkered around in Movie Edit Pro 17, and have no trouble shifting the whole palette into gradations of red, but the bright areas remain white.  Is there a way to adjust the image so it ranges from red (the flourescent lights themselves) to black (deep shadows), with no whites or pinks?

Any help would be appreciated--thanks!

Hi

Try this:-

1. Create a 100% red image the same size as the movie resolution in an image editing program.

2. Import this onto the timeline below the video you want to colourise and stretch it to the time length required.

3. Select the video clip(s) and set the Saturation to 0

4. With the video clip still selected, select Chroma key and apply Alpha to the video clip.
