I am not sure what to tell you there, my playbacks in Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus are good. Although any large MTS files (AVCHD) can cause choppy playback. By choppy I mean that the audio is playing back but it seems the program is having trouble keeping the visual part of the video in time with the audio, so it jumps frames to keep up. MTS files are super large (1920x1080) and I am not running the program on a superior system... just a HP Pavilion DV6 laptop. On top of that, my video content is on an external USB portable hard drive.

But, even with that said...

Movie Edit Pro is not playback software, it is an editor. The program must read in every pixel, and that alone can eat up your available resources fast, especially if you have a computer that has a lot of auto-start applications running (all those icons hanging out around the clock). Even with that I mentioned above, when I export or burn, I get flawless results, so it always made it a non-issue and I have done very little to tweak it to run faster or smoother.

This doesn't explain why the same exact video plays back fine in 15 but not 17. The only thing I can think of is that the version 17 is optimized for 64 bit systems with multi-core processors. Now, that doesn't mean it should slow itself it is not in a Vista 64 or Windows 7, but it could have an overall influence on the playback.

If you take the digital file off the camera and onto the hard drive, does it run smoother? If so, it might be the dialog between the camera and the program.

Does this happen with all video or just certain formats?

 thetruesad,

In MEP17 go to Program settings and change playback resolution to half.

This got rid of choppy playback in the time line for me, hope it works for you too.

Go to this Magix Support site: http://tinyurl.com/5tswdg6

Although it has recently been closed by Magix, its thousands of posts remain archived and accessible on a read-only basis. Just use its Search tool (top right). For example, a search target of jerky will deliver several useful suggestions.

Amongst them you'll see a link to Alwyn's page on Jerky Preview/Playback at
http://www.aaproductions.net/mep/problems/jerkypreview.htm

I'd also suggest you provide more details of your PC. And the file format too, in case it turns out to be a codec issue. Use MediaInfo or GSpot to report the file details.

You might want to consider using the Forum section of magix.info instead of this non-threaded Q&A section.
