Choppy after the first scene

I'm editing in Edit Pro 15 on windows 7 with 64 bit and 2ghz. My problem is that when I'm editing, my first scene will always play seemlessly but when it gets to the next scene it becomes choppy. Each file is the same recording format, 60i and the movie setting is adjusted accordingly. I even copy the files to my pc from my sd card to avoid transfer lag but the problem is persisting. My camera is a Canon Vixia hf s20 using .mts files. This issue is making it difficult to create sharp cuts between scenes and is really hindering the editing process. Any advice?
