Changing non-commercial to commercial use

ChewyCabba wrote on 5/19/2021, 3:57 AM

So when I was buying soundpools i wasnt really paying attention and just now noticed that you have to separately click to buy commercial use packs. I'm just starting out and though I don't intend to make money any time soon and am starting this out as a hobby the goal is to eventually make music that I can put out publicly. I have been searching for a while now but cant find out how to change the non-commercial to commercial use or if I can do that from a finished song or whatever. Any information on how to switch it over for when I get to that point would be greatly appreciated. I am currently using version 29.0.6.38 or the 2020 version. Thank you

@ChewyCabba

Welcome to the Magix user to user forum.

First, for clarity, version 29 is actually MM 2021. From what you write, I wonder whether you updated from version 28 (MM 2020) to version 29? If so, and unless you paid for the upgrade, what you now have is actually the Free variant of MM, with its limitations on, amongst other things, the number of tracks and no access to any external VSTs or VSTis.

It is possible to have both versions 28 and 29 installed together on the same machine, as I have. Is that the case for you? But I still needed to upgrade the version 29 installation to make sure I was not running the Free variant.

To answer your question about upgrading licenses: you cannot upgrade from non-commercial to any type of commercial license. Instead you will need to buy any commercial license at its full price and I would advise doing this before you make any attempt to use any Soundpool in a composition you intend to release commercially. Full details of what each licence type allows can be found here.

Hi

When you buy a Commercial licence the Soundpool is still the same one. You purchase the right, a 'licence', to use the Soundpool commercially - this is for your 'paperwork' to ensure you can prove that you have the rights to use them commercially.

Do note that even though you may have a commercial licence you will almost certainly get hit by Copyright and/or Plagiarism claims from other creators and in some cases scammers trying to extort money. This cannot be helped as you are using preset sound loops.

Copyright of the Soundpool loops remains that of Magix.

To avoid any Copyright issues:

  1. do not use Soundpools
  2. compose your own score - this must be an original - lifting parts form others work is liable to claims of plagiarism and/or copyright breech
  3. use the Instruments to create the music, either by playing with a MIDI keyboard or writing the notes in the MIDI Editor.

I feel like that seems kinda ridiculous since I paid for them and am willing to pay the difference for my mistake but where would I go to do that anyway. Whenever I click on the sound pool it just says that I have acquired it and doesn't give me any options to rebuy it or anything. Also I just bought the program and installed it on my computer like a week or two ago so why would it default to a free version?

@ChewyCabba You can buy the commercial licenses on Producerplanet.com

Just use your user account e-mail and password to login.

Then you did not update from version 28, so you do have the variant you actually paid for. Your mention of having MM 2020 is where the confusion has arisen.

@ChewyCabba

Music Maker is FREE! There is only one version. You pay for Editions, like Premium 2021 which gives you some features, presets, instruments (credits) and Soundpools (credits).
