Catooh soundpool changes: September 2015

MovieMusicFan wrote on 9/17/2015, 7:53 AM

Hi,

Catooh changed all the names of their soundpools (for Music Maker), moved some around, and some seem to be completely gone from the site. Does anyone know if this will disqualify me from redownloading content I've bought over the years? If something happens, like a fire or something, I'll lose everything I have. My only hope would be to redownload everything. Does it mean that I (and everyone else in this position) would have to buy everything all over again?

(This would be disasterous to me - I have over 60 soundpools!  )

Thanks to anyone with any answers!

Hi,

The soundpools on Catooh do look strange. I looked at some of the collections trying to find the ones that I have. When I found a couple that look like what I have, like MovieScore whatever, the description mentions that it is for Jam and that the loops come from various other Soundpools. For ex. MovieScore Vol 3 has loops from Vol 10 or something like that.

I have always found Catooh difficult to negotiate, especially for the Soundpool Collections, and now it looks impossible to find what I already have. I don't want to purchase anything twice and I am quite confused. Magix has some explaining to do.

Anyone see an explanation somewhere?

That said, looking at what I have downloaded, there is no way to download them again from my account. Once downloaded or maybe after a month, the download button is gone.

I suggest that you backup everything on DVD or BD and store it away from your home, or use the cloud, something like Dropbox or Box. I have everything backed up on another physicla drive and on BD, but I have started sending things like photos, documents, and the soundpools to the cloud.

Here is a copy of what is shown when I search for Movie Score Vol. 7:

Loops/Sounds of "Music Maker Jam Style" Movie Score Vol. 7 - 379 Files - 80 BPM - (Wave 44,1 kHz / 16 Bit / stereo) - Instruments: Brass, Choir, Drums, Fx & Bass, GrandPiano, Percussion, Strings, Woodwinds - contains samples from: MovieScore Vol. 7, Soundpool DVD Collection 16, Catooh

Hi

From the Catooh website FAQ

. . . . You alone are responsible for the security of your purchased media files. For this reason, we recommend making regular and multiple backup copies every now and then. . . . . .

IIRC there was a statement somewhere that stated the download links remain active for a specified peroid and advised to backup as above.

Thank you, johnebaker. I figured that it was a blanket "tough luck if you didn't put them on a thumbdrive and put them in a safety despoit box, a vault, or a nuclear fallout shelter deep under the Arizona desert". I did run into a problem once (they offered bonus loops on a few of the Score pools a year or two after I had bought them) and they were good enough to let me redownload them so I could get the bonuses. I will be taking copies of my files and literally sticking them in a safety deposit box in my bank, since I don't believe the cloud is safe. Not that a bank is, either....  *haha*

It's very sad that the company doesn't take tragedies and accidents into account. Sure, I know they're in the business of making money, and I'm not actually in trouble and don't need them to come to my musical rescue, but it would be really awesome to know that they had my back if I did run into trouble and lost everything. After all, I've paid them hundreds of (Canadian) dollars over the years. I've helped them stay in business, just like everyone else out here. It would be nice if they appreciated that. It's not like it costs them anything to check, find out that you have a genuine claim, then come and offer to help you out with the option to redownload things you bought. Just sayin'.....

Thank you, browj2. I ran into a problem with Catooh's tech staff when I tried to point out to them last year that they have the wrong sampler song on their Electro Pop soundpool. I tried three or four times to explain to them that they had the finished song "Killer", which is available to buy on their site, instead of an original compilation made from the actual pool. I feel sorry for anyonoe who went there, thinking they were getting a pool that could be turned into that song, because they're getting something totally different. (I know, because I bought both.) Because I tried to help them out, they don't really want to talk to me anymore. On the rare occasions that they do... it's very terse and unfriendly. Very sad on their part when I was only trying to help them out.

I think that MAGIX and CATOOH need to look at what the people are saying and fix the problems instead of sticking their heads in the sand and ignoring the it all. Focus on repairs, not fancy graphics and names. People aren't happy wiht them and they don't seem to care. So sad.

Again, thanks, guys. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer me. Best wishes to you both!   :-)

Don't know about putting them on a thumbdrive - they are not that reliable for making archive backups - multiple copies on quality CD's or DVD's kept in black cases out of sunlight in a cool place are good for 5 - 10 years before you need to copy them again onto new discs.

Thats what I call security  - agree totally about the cloud.

At least your software is available online - at present it looks like the last 6 versions.

Cheers

I have also seen this, But there are EU rules on this and you have purchased this and entered into a contract if the contract is for a period of time then they can not touch this

If there is no time limit and they change the product with out telling you then they have breeched the T&C

I have backed up all my soundpools as i dont trust the cloud

MovieMusicFan wrote on 9/26/2015, 5:41 AM

Thanks everyone, but it really doesn't matter anymore. They just raised the prices so high that I can no longer afford any of the new soundpools. I'm sorry if the company is having difficulty, but that's really no reason to raise the prices so high so fast. I was willing to pay $25 USD (which is raised by 25% for me in Canada), but not nearly the $100 it will be once the exchange rate is finished. This is a hobby for me, not a business, so it's totally out of range for me now.

I suppose this also means I will likely not come back here since there won't be any point. It's been fun and I would like to extend a very big thank you to everyone here and on the other dumb newbie questions I asked. You were patient and kind ot help me. Thanks so much.

Dear Catooh (and Magix), if you do happen to ever read these forums: sorry you decided to triple your prices, especially on Score. That was a nasty shock, but I suppose you have your reasons. Best of luck to you, but I guess I'm gone.

Bye!
