I suppose I might be able to connect the camera via its IEEE1394 port to the PCI port on my PC, (the method I've used reliably for SD Video), drag the file into a windows folder, then hopefully convert using 'Wondershare?' An inherent problem with this method 'could' be the camera's older/slower technology permitting a 'slower transfer speed'? I guess its worth a try considering the camera has varied professional features? Do you think there 'could' be a loss of visual detail or resolution after the conversion? Is there a more current MEP program that would support DVC Pro 50?

Video Pro X15 supports DVCPro, there is a small fee for the codec in addition to the extra cost of the program - you should qualify for the Upgrade price already having MEP 2016.

There is always the chance of loss of detail in conversion depending on the format and bitrate you convert to, you would have to test this eg convert to AVI and h.264/AVC (MP4) at 28 Mb/s and compare the resulting videos.

Could both programs run compatibly within the same system? Could you draw any 'comparison' as to how/which format/layout Video Pro X15 compares to? The 'Vegas Layout' ? Final Cut?

From the image above

Working over USB directly with the camera is not recommended and may not be possible as MEP creates support files (.H0 and .HDP) which are stored in the same location as the source video files.

If you have a P2 Store this would work as an external drive however it connects as USB2 and you still have to convert the video if not using VPX and there is still the issue of the support files - the P2 does not allow for writing from the PC

The IEE 1394 capture to a supported format would appear to be the easiest option however this is also going to be slow.

I suspected this disappointing information. More than likely why so many HVX200's eventually bit the dust. However I'm also amazed at the HIGH price retention of those used P2 cards on ebay. Its unbelievable how only a 62GB P2 used card goes for $160-$250! SD cards of larger capacity are a fraction of the cost. There's a limited number of users who remain interested in this camera probably due to its professional features and ability to also use SD tapes. This LINK explains how/why users were able to manage P2 files. Shame it isn't also designed for PC compatibility ...

I was referring to the external USB drive / P2 card reader device for which the software you linked to can be used.

I had a similar device - different make - many years ago for back up camera photos and videos.

DVC Pro video encoding format was developed for the pro market tape based cameras and is based on the earlier DV format, it is still used on some pro cameras however card storage has taken over the tape formats. The P2 cards are as you have commented been superseded by SD and micro SD cards which have higher capacities, have higher bitrate capabilities and cheaper than the P2 cards - I am using Samsung Evo plus 256GB, 130Mb/s microSD cards.
