VPX has H265 encoders and decoders built in. There may be another problem with the file type.
If you could download and use MediaInfo and post the results here from the text view of the program we might be able to see what the problem is. I know there has been problems reported on this site in the past regarding Canon log files.
Here is the actual error from Video Pro X 15: MXMPEG2 Error 0801: cannot initialize Intel decoder And below you find Mediainfo text:

I have also used Canon EOS R with C-LOG (8-bit) and it worked fine. This video with current problem is taken with Canon EOS R6MK2 C-LOG 3 (10 bit). If you are interested to compare EOS R file with EOS R6MK2 file i will send it too.
As far as I can tell there is nothing wrong with the video file itself but will ask @johnebaker to check as he has more experience than me with looking at 10 bit log files. There is the QuickTime tag in the exif data but I think that is normal for this type of file.
However the program error waning suggests a hardware failure to complete the task of reading the file.
What Intel GPU are you using? if you have more than one GPU on your system try disabling the intel one in the program and change the settings to use something else.
Changing from 8 to 10 bit log is a huge difference in in the processing power required.
It may also help at this point to give a complete system specification of your system due to that error warning.
Hello. I use the Canon R6MkII, including the original R6, as well as the Canon R7. All shoot with Canon C-Log3, and the supplied Media Info is similar to what mine report (though mine would be 23.976 or 29.970 - NTSC land).
My question would be if @JussiK downloaded and installed the HEVC software from Canon's site, specific to the camera. Each one uses the camera body Serial Number to activate. And no, he/she does not need to install Canon's DPP4 (Digital Photo Professional) software, unless they are inclined to use it instead of say LightRoom/Photoshop/Luminar/etc.
Additionally, the other issue is that both Nvidia and AMD DO NOT have hardware acceleration for 4:2:2 10-bit files (does not matter the camera), just Intel. Though one must wonder how this turn of events unfolded since the aforementioned companies were all at the "Design/Development" table for H.265/HEVC, and everyone who wants to use this particular CODEC, has to pay Intel.
I use VEGAS Pro Edit 20 on my computer, but with having an All-AMD Threadripper system, no way to utilize the Intel architecture for Decoding/Encoding the CLOG3 footage, though their (VEGAS Pro) current software Decoder opens it and plays, albeit at about 1/2 frame per 2-5 seconds 😥 And the basic of DaVinci Resolve 18.6.3, won't even consider trying to open. So, using Shutter Encoder, I transcode the footage to Apple ProRes 422, which edits fast and smooth. Though, I do not know if Magix Video Pro X or Magix Movie Studio open those types of files, Shutter Encoder can transcode to DNxHD/HR; GoPro Cineform; Uncompressed; and even H.264 (none of which I use since Apple ProRes works extremely fine on my systems).
This Link will provide a Canon R6MkII CLog3 file, approximately 545 MB in size.
The above screen shot is from Canon's DPP4 program, with additional camera settings used during the shoot. You can get the MediaInfo for the file above, should you already have MediaArea.net's MediaInfo installed (I believe one of our contributors has provided a link and installation guide - search for it!)
@CubeAce Hi Ray, I do not think this causes any issues with other HEVC codecs, as it is installed on both computers listed in my signature, and as you can see, a variety of GoPro cameras that I use. I believe it is to "initialize" the CODEC for the camera, and for viewing the file within DPP4 itself in its viewer.
Oh, and please forgive the crappy focusing at the time. Was dealing with the mass amounts of people, including the family next to me while setting up the camera for the parade. But hey, what a wonderful job the camera/lens did at auto-focusing on that stanchion ball!😏
Yeah, it opens fine in VEGAS Pro 20 (411) without proxies or transcoding, but is definitely not the best editing experience. Therefore, I transcode out to Apple ProRes 422 with Shutter Encoder. I prefer that method, compared to creating proxies, then toggle on - toggle off. Was not sure about the Magix Video Pro/Movie Studio line-up, as I do not have any version of those. Used Sony/Magix Movie Studio HD/Platinum/Suite from versions 10 through 17, and now have just stayed with VEGAS Pro Edit. Don't need the fancy things anymore, and HitFilm has really disappointed since being bought out by Artlist, so have not installed for close to 4 years now, as I saw the decline way back then.
Have not purchased Version 21 yet, as I have enough projects using 18/19/20 for now, and need to finish them before another upgrade. Still thinking about possibly getting the Magix Movie Studio Suite, or even Video Pro X, possibly when Humble Bundle has a sale, just to try either/or out. I've seen a lot of John Brown's tutorials, which though not having MMS or VPX, does help in thought process for editing and ideas. Plus, you can't beat Bernadette's Acting Chops and on-screen presence!😃
Glad the info helped. Guess I do have some gear, but like a lot on these forums, when retired, we got to find some way to keep ourselves occupied. Plus, I'd rather spend my money, then expect Politicians to know what to do with it! And keep up your work. I do watch a lot of your videos, know you use Nikon, and have a done a great job helping out in the forum. And, I am waiting for you to post an updated "Christmas Run" (? - the one's where it shows the show around the docks - if this old brain is remembering correctly). Love the nostalgic feel, and music!
I just had time to download that test file. It played back just fine on both VPX 14 and MEP 2022.
I had no need to create proxy files or reduce frame rate or play it with decreased resolution.
First time I have ever seen my system use with all 16 CPU cores never going below 67% peaking around 80 with one core constantly at 100% usage, or the Intel HD 630 work so hard at around a constant 84 %. No help what so ever from the nvidia GPU. If I'm honest I would say playback was a tad better in MEP 2022. In VPX there was a slight jump each time the loop restarted.
I downloaded HEVC from Canon but there was no change. Also downloaded Canon DPP4 and found that it can handle C-LOG3 files easily, including 4K, so i think the problem is not on the hardware.
Anyway GPU is NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650 Super and CPU is 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F 2.50 GHz, Windows 11 Home
Btw. VLC player opens C-LOG3 -files. Full HD seems ok, but 4K is really choppy.
