@gaunt Hi, that graphics card is very old & seriously under powered, try going to File - Settings ( or click Y on the keyboard) - Device options & change the settings to CPU.
Thanks, very helpful. Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5550 @ 2.67GHz 2.66 GHz (2 processors) 24 Gb Ram
Do you mean file/settings on the video file?
What upgraded graphics card would you recommend?

@gaunt I mean these settings in Magix, I don't know much about your CPU as that is also quite old, online it says it's a quad core (4 processors), if it is just a dual core processor (2 processors) it might not make it much better, someone else will give you more info.
Unfortunately I agree with @Former user. If your motherboard only officially supports PCIe Gen 2 graphics cards then the system is too old and cannot run above direct X 10 computations. Although you could put a gen 3 nvidia card in a Gen 2 slot and it will work as a video card but only up to a point. There would be no benefit. Even your inboard Intel graphics are not currently supported. The program will pick up that you have graphics processors but it can't use them. The program needs to be able to access and use Direct X 11.1 as a minimum and I suspect some parts of the program or third party plugins may require direct X 12.
They were good and expensive components in their day but unfortunately 2007 / 8 was a long time ago in computer generations.
Thanks very much, I appreciate your time. Not ready to upgrade right now, so maybe revert to an earlier version of Movie Edit Pro? The last version worked fine.

@gaunt Yep, unfortunately that might be your answer, when one thing gets upgraded or updated it puts everything out of sync & so all those other things need upgrading or updating, it's a never ending battle.
I hope you have your old version on disc as people have not been able to download really old copies of the program from the Magix servers. The downloaders appear to no longer work as I think the internet protocols they used are no longer available. You should be OK if the older version was MEP 2018 or newer. Not sure how much further you could go back.
Thanks.. Iv'e got 8 Xeon processor cores and 24Gb of RAM. I am getting a Topiky GTX 1060 graphics card which will be installed tomorrow. Hopefully everything will work then. Very impressed with this forum. Thanks again.
. . . . GTX 1060 graphics card which will be installed tomorrow. Hopefully everything will work then. . . .
This may improve the performance of your PC with Movie Studio 2024, however it is very likely to make no difference to an older version of MEP that ran on the 9800 GT.
Older versions of MEP relied on CUDA which is no longer supported in a GPU such as the 1060 and later - they support NVENC.
Unfortunately Xeon processors are not 'the best' for video editing, they were designed for use in servers and high end workstations for CAD and design work that relied heavily on CUDA and a Nvidia GPU for carrying out the 'grunt' of the processing.
