Cannot change the "Temporary files and record folder"

David-Mohler wrote on 2/25/2023, 5:21 PM

I have Sound Forge Pro 16 version 16.1.4 Build 71.

Under "Options > General > Temporary files and record folder", when I click "Browse..." I am unable to change to anythnig other than Desktop. I cannot see any other storage locations on my computer, and I can only create a new folder on the Desktop.

How do I change this path to a differnet drive?

Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @David-Mohler.

I cannot duplicate the behavior in any version of Sound Forge including the just published SFP-16.1.4 Build 71. Below is a screenshot of my temp files and record folder setting, which is currently set to Desktop. If I click "Computer", I can choose almost any folder on the PC.

That is exactly what I do NOT see. All I see is "Desktop", with no expandable tree at all.

Hi

Is Sound Forge installed on a PC, or a MAC using Parallels or similar virtual machine software?

If a PC what is the make/model ?

Windows 11 Pro, fully patched, HP z820 workstation. I am the only user, with administrative privileges. No weird utilities, pretty straight configuration. Everything else works just fine. This exact same symptom also appears in Acid.

Maybe a Win 11 user can duplicate the behavior.
You can open a support ticket and see what the Magix tech folks have to say.
If you a have not requested support before, it is a bit confusing, so you may want to peruse the instructions in this comment,

hi @David-Mohler, i can't reproduce this either...for me, on all of my systems, it is no problem to change the temp folder location.

Hi

. . . . I am the only user, with administrative privileges . . . .

Not quite - the default 'Administrator' level you will have is a restricted 'administrator'.

Did you try right running the program using :

The right click Run as Administrator option on the program executable.

OR

Right click the program shortcut and select Properties, Compatibility tab and check the Run this program as Administrator option - you will get a security warning when you start the program.

Yes, I have tried both approaches, and it does not make any difference. This is all I see:

The problem has been found, in this Microsoft Article.

The workaround is to stop syncing the Desktop folder with OneDrive. Once that is turned off, the problem goes away.

@David-Mohler

Hi

Thanks for the feedback.

Was the desktop set to sync to oneDrive by default?

No, it was not. I remember turning that on a long time ago. For work, I have three Office 365 business accounts and one personal account. I was syncing the personal account across desktops, for roaming convenience. But as the Browse dialog box problem started occuring more and more frequently, it made me consider that it might be a Windows 11 issue...and it was.
