Hi.

I think the audio is of a V8 with no exhaust being revved. Seems a clean enough recording in my editor if not loud. In VPX 11, I get the request for the codec. No picture.

Can I ask if VPX or MEP always had the option to purchase additional codecs or did this develop later?

I'm wondering if this became an optional thing in later releases to reduce the purchase cost of the program for those that didn't need the additional codecs.

Ray.

Hi

What is the audio we hear in the background of the sample clip.

@CubeAce thinks it is a V8 car engine with no exhaust. In VPX 8 it sounds to me something like a small engine eg lawn mower or other motorised garden tool.

Ray - the audio level in VPX 8 is between -9 and -12 dB.

Is it a wood chipper for shredding tree branches and was it very loud?

@CubeAce @johnebaker

I really think the problem here is that Apple ProRes support which previously was available (it even showed up in the Export Movie list of codecs) has been absent in VPX since several versions back. VPX7 may have been the last with it and that is why it plays in 7, albeit badly.

Hi Peter

. . . . VPX7 may have been the last with it and that is why it plays in 7, albeit badly. . . . .

The sample video plays perfectly in VPX 8 with no Quicktime. The engine was certainly close by however as I said above the audio level is between -9 and -12 dB - no sign of overload or distortion.

@johnebaker

I agree that while I first thought that it was a quieter sound that was distorting in VPX, once I had listened to it again I "twigged😄" that it was probably a wood chipper close by. That said VPX7 plays the file but seems to lack HW decoding support on my system which may be a limitation of the HD530, putting everything onto the CPU - so with some stuttering.

The sample video plays perfectly in VPX 8 with no Quicktime.

Do you mean that VPX8 does not have the ProRes option in the export movie list?

Hi Peter

VPX 8 does have the ProRes export option available and it works, yet VPX 12 does not and Quicktime is definitely not installed.

@ -> Ray

I assume this Vegas product was not the cheaper Studio version

That's right, this is Vegas Pro 17 and 18.

@ -> Everyone,

Today I did a new reading test under VPX12 installed on my desktop (2 days ago it was on my laptop). Once it was able to install the AVC Intra codec for free, but I canceled the dowlnoad. I don't understand because there is no link for the extra codecs between VPX and VEGAS. VEGAS 17 & 18 don't need extra codecs for read "wkuk" video sample.

If you have Vegas Pro 17 or 18 you should enable So4 Compound Reader in internal preferences. Value should be true.

For information there was a previous discussion about this kind of MOV files issued from PANASONIC hight perf camcorders / DSLRs.

@sasiuk @wkuk @johnebaker @CubeAce

Hi all.

Doing a bit more research and have found that there are 2 different types of HEVC H.265 - 'hev1'/'hvc1' which are code points used to signal different packaging of the stream in the container mp4 file.

Apparently hvc1 is required for later versions of Quicktime (10.1) to play them, so perhaps the older versions of Quicktime for Windows will not play them, requiring hev1. I think they can be converted using ffmpeg command line but I don't know how to use that.

As for VPX7 or 8 playing the Pana .MOV supplied by wkuk - some of the video converter websites mention playing being possible but with high CPU usage and stuttering etc. because of a suitable decoder not being available. See the Codec ID     : qt   2011.07 (qt  /pana) in the MI wkuk posted.

Just maybe the AVC Intra license has more in it than just the decoder for AVC Intra playback in Magix - like other decoders? - because @sasiuk can play them "perfectly" in VPX12 with the hvc1codec ID / configuration.

What do you all think?

Peter

Hi Peter.

Did no-one actually follow my link or saw the main concept decoder mentioned in the list? Yes the codec has changed.

Explanation is here on the Main Concept webpages.

Note the additional requirement for HDR add-on and could well be why there is an additional payment required.

That plus the warning on the Apple site about third party FFmpeg versions of the decoder.

Hi all.

Today I compared the files under C: \ Program Files \ MAGIX \ Video Pro X \ 12 \ RegModule_x64 between my laptop and my desktop

On the laptop there is an additional file which is: mc_bc_dec_avc.dll

This file (MainConcept Broadcast AVC/H.264 Decoder) was created last Monday, date of download and install of AVC intra program and for free.

If I move this DLL, playing wkuk example video file is no longer possible under VPX12.

I lauched a search for this DLL on the whole system disk of my laptop.

This DLL is present in several programs of VEGAS PRO, which is probably the reason why the AVC Intra update was free.

All of the following are for purpose test only.

This dll is also provided by Adobe for one of my programs.

It is also a newer version.

I copied it from my laptop to my desktop and launched VPX12 on my desktop.

The sample video file from wkuk plays smoothly on my desktop. Remember that I canceled the installation of the AVC intra codec last week on my desktop.

Note that all these last investigations are for purpose test only.

Regards.
