Hi

Different things may be causing the problem

1. Which settings are you using to burn the disc?

2.  What isthe make of disc you are using?

3.  What is the age of the DVD player.?

4.  What error is the DVD player giving? Usually you get an error message or code - usually error no 11 or disc not recognised or no disc

Does your burner automatically finalize the disc?

Otherwise I agree with johnebaker's answer no. 2 and no. 3.  Not every disc you buy gives good results.  I have burned over 25,000 discs without returns but I use Tyo Yuden (now JVC) Watershield discs - not inexpensive (about 70¢ each).

There are less expensive discs that are good - just making the point.

I've seen something similar. Firstly, it seems that DVD RWs often don't play on TV DVD players, don't know why. It is not poor quality disks, something missing in the format. They will never play on my Sony DVD player, anyway.

Secondly I have come across players that will play DVD-R but not DVD+R, especially if the player is a bit old. (DVD+R is newer than DVD-R).

I tend to use Verbatim DVD-R all the time now. They seem to play on most things. Havibng said that no writeable DVD has the same signal level as a manufactured one, so if the player is a bit marginal, then it may will have difficulty with home written ones.

Finally, never use double layer disks - impossible to get reliable playing as far as I can see.

To be sure what is going on, try building the disk to a PC folder, and then write to the disk using ImgBurn (free). ImgBurn is difficult to beat as a CD/DVD burner. I never use the inbuilt Magix support for burning.
