Firstly, what version of Sound Forge (SF) are you using? Read this 'Sticky' at the head for the main SF forum page for the information needed to help you.
- Do you have a internal (soundcard) or external interface?
- Do you have the desired input set as the default 'Record' input in Windows sound settings?
- What audio device type (record) do you have selected in SF. Ms Sound Mapper and Classic Wave driver are usually trouble free. An ASIO audio device type is usually not necessary with SF, since SF is not a multi-track application for overdubbing.
- Do you see activity on the SF's record input meter? "View> Record Options"...
.. You may need to enter the 'record ready' mode with the 'Arm' command in the 'Transport' menu, keyboard shortcut or the 'Arm' icon in the 'Transport' toolbar to activate the meter.

Version 15 build 118, yes, I have activity on the input meter, yet, no playback sounds ?
The Windows sound settings (record) default input source may be set to something other than what you want and the meter activity you see could be the system noise floor.
Do other audio files playback normally and can you hear them on your speakers or headphones?
What do you hear when 'record ready' (Transport> Arm) is enabled. Also record something easily identifiable, like tapping on a microphone, where you should see the waveform being built with peaks from tapping on a mic,

The updater can be flaky. You can download the unpacked Audio Studio-15, build 121 here and re-install AS-15. it is basically the same as using internal updater. Your custom user settings will remain.. Just do not uninstall the previous build first until the installer dialog asks if you want to.. choose yes. If you want to return to the factory default settings, select 'File> "Reset all preferences and clear cached data"
Otherwise, the annoying update notification can be disabled, but it is not in the "Options> Preferences" settings.
ok, so I'm getting sound to record, however, now I get a really bad reverb when I go to arm to record?
Hi @shawn-r, an internal loop causing runaway feedback (really bad reverb) can occur when 'Monitor' is enabled. Go to "View> Record Options" and set the Monitor to 'OFF". If you need to see the input levels in the Record Options window prior to 'rolling tape', enter the 'record ready' mode with the 'Arm' command.
