Can't get Magix Video Deluxe 2019 Plus to import HDV from Sony camera

Hello everyone! I am trying to move video recorded on my Sony HDV video camera over to Magix Video Deluxe Plus Steam Edition using Firewire. I am recording in HDV format. I can set the I.Link Conversion to "DV" which allows me to send the video to the software, but only in DV format (720x480). When i.Link Conversion is set to "Off", the software says it can't connect to the camera (even though I see it's name (greyed out) in the Device name). I've checked to see if my drivers are okay, I'm even using the Legacy drivers people have mentioned helps to solve this problem but no luck. How can I record my HDV recordings to Video Deluxe, please?

Welcome to the Magix forums.

I honestly don't know the direct answer to your question but I suspect the solution is actually quite simple: basically, don't use the HDV Import method but rather copy the files straight from the camera to your hard drive. I assume the camera has a USB port? if so, use it to connect to a suitable USB port on your computer. The computer should see the camera, perhaps as a "storage device" and you can then copy the files to your computer (I suggest creating a folder with the title of your project as its name and putting all the files in there).

Thinking about why your firewire method only creates Standard Definition DV, I suspect this may be due to the data throughput capacity of the connection. Firewire, now almost obsolete, had two "speeds", "400" and "800". I wonder whether your computer is using 400 and that is simply too "slow" to handle HDV?

I'm sure the likes of @johnebaker will have other ideas to offer.

From the information you have given ie transferring from camera via Firewire (i.Link) suggest that this is an older mini DV tape camera, in which case, from the mini DV cameras I have used, 720x480 (AR 4:3 or16:9) is the maximum resolution the camera records at - you cannot transfer at a higher resolution to MEP.

Are you selecting the HDV option when you launch the record via the red button in Video Deluxe? This should be preset with a record template for 1440x1080i ie the HDV format. If it has a DV format template then it might be that you are trying to do an analog to digital conversion from say a VCR analog output using the camera as a converter. In this case only DV format will be output.

If you have a tape in the camera which you are trying to transfer to your computer, are you sure that all the material is in fact recorded in HDV and not some DV, and that there is not a setting in the camera to set output to HDV or DV? This is usually set to Auto however. Make sure the AV to DV (conversion) setting in the camera is set to off.

Set your camcorder to PLAY before connecting your Firewire cable.

Data throughput should not be a limitation because firewire supports 400Mbps and HDV is only about 35Mbps.
