Can not open music editor

I wish to record from a microphone using my MP3 Maker 12 Deluxe but can not open the music editor function from the screen. When I move the cursor to it it tells me what it does but when I click nothing happens

I think you need to have a track or audio selected first, then press the icon.

It has been a while, I do not have MP3 Maker 12 anymore to verify, but I think selecting a track or audio object then pressing the icon allows the music editor to open that audio.
