Can I use the sounds of my workstation in program magix music maker 2016 live?

I have a workstation Kurzweil pc361. I really like the sound of this instrument. I would use these sounds in the program magix music maker 2016 live. I can record their audio. But I want them to be recorded on the MIDI channel. And to be able to edit them in the program. Please tell me how to do it?

Hi,

Nice machine.

To record MIDI, you have to first select an instrument. You cannot use the sound of the Kurzweil, only the instruments in MusicMaker, for recording. Once you have the MIDI recording, you can actually play it back through the Kurzweil, but you have no way to select the instrument of the Kurzweil. It plays only the base instrument - the piano, at least mine does. To do this, you have to change the Program settings, Audio/MIDI, Output device, to the Kurzweil. Then for the instrument (left side of the track), select "No VSTi." This will send the MIDI out to the Kurzweil, but again, there is no way to select the instrument.

In Samplitude Music Studio, you can select a GM instrument for the external keyboard.

As an alternative, you can probably export the MIDI file from MusicMaker and import it into the Kurzweil and then play it from there and record the output back into the computer using the sound of the the Kurzweil.

Thank you for help. You described many ways how I can use my workstation. But unfortunately, I understood that I cannot use sounds as midi from Kurzwell. Tell me please, do you have in programm Samplitude Music Studio same functions as the programm MusicMaker? I mean all samples and sound sets? Maybe will easier use this programm (Samplitude), and use in it sounds of Kurzwell?

Can I use sounds from Kurzwell in Samplitude Music Studio programm?

You should be able to. I have done it before with mine and Samplitude Music Studio (MSM). If you just want to play your Kurzwell and record the audio, that is easy. But if you want to play the Kurzwell, record MIDI from it onto a track and at the same time send the MIDI back to the Kurzwell and have the sound sent back to a second track that records audio using the sound from the Kurzwell, then this is most likely possible but complicated.

There must be a Kraznet tutorial on how to do this, on YouTube.

I succeeded with Samplitude Pro X3, but I didn't try with SMS. My only problem is that I can't access anything more than the GM instruments of my keyboard. You may be able to access them by putting in the bank MSB and LSB numbers for the Kurzwell. I know that others have succeeded, but I think that I have a limitation with my cheap Casio keyboard.

So, your first step would be to download the trial version and try it out. There is a lot to learn. Connect your keyboard to the MIDI and audio in ports. Set the keyboard to MIDI, local off. Then, using MIDI, have the input and the output as the MIDI keyboard. When you select Program, that is where you select the instrument from your keyboard. Then when you record, MIDI will be recorded in SMS. Now, on track 2, set it for audio in using the audio input from. Arm both tracks for recording. Record your MIDI. The output is the sound from the keyboard and it gets recorded onto track 2 as audio while MIDI is recorded on track 1. Complicated?

There is more, you will have to play with the audio drivers. For recording, I used WDM. Once you have the recording, you can change the audio output of the MIDI file.

Lastly, if you recorded just the MIDI, then set only track 2 to record. When you press on record, the MIDI part will play using the sound on the Kurzwell which will also be recorded onto track 2.

There may be another way to do this but I haven't found it yet. It took me a while to understand which audio driver to use at which time before I got it right. I must record the steps in a video so that you will understand and I won't forget. That said, I have so many instruments that I really don't need any from keyboard....except the bagpipes.

Sorry if this seems quite scattered, but you have some learning to do first to get familiar with SMS.

Just tried to document this. Below is my set up. I ended up with playback of track 1 through the computer speakers and track 2 through my M-Audio M-Track headphones. This happens because the sound from the keyboard plays back on the computer sound card, and thus the output is that of the card.
