Cableguys plugins crash Acid pro Next when loaded onto a track/master

Hi there,

I downloaded and installed the demo versions of Halftime and Shaperbox 2 from Cableguys. I use MAGIX ACID PRO NEXT 10.3, WIN 10 and run in 64bit.

However, when adding either plugin to a track or to master, I get the dreade "an exception has occured" error message preceding a total crash of Acid.

I installed both 32 and 64 bit versions of the plugins in the default Acid VST folders, and tried to reinstall them twice but to no avail.

I am aware that Acid Pro is not listed in the compatible DAWs on the Cableguys site, but I do run a lot of high end plugins (Waves, Izotope, IK Multi etc) without any issues, even though Acid Pro is not listed as compatible on their repective websites.

If any Acid user has been using Cableguys plugins or has encountrered similar issues, I would definitely welcome some guidance and advice - this is driving me mildly nuts.

Cheers,

Alex

PS - I also reached out to CableGuys.

I use Cableguys stuff on mine and luckily it has worked so far but I am on Acid Pro 10, not suite or Next. Not sure if that makes a difference. Try this, install a separate acid pro, barebone version, see if it picks up cableguys. This is a weird one.

Thank you for your reply Aman. What plugins do you use on AP10?

I got cableguys, waves, fabfilter mainly. I rarely use any Magix plugins as they are still very clunky. Acid pro doesn't even come with a basic filter plugin so I use a lot of 3rd party.

Very similar plugin setup - yet only the Cableguys stuff crashes. I got a nearly immediate reply from their support asking for more details and a follow up email this morning letting me know that their dev team is actively looking into it as they do not test on Acid. How is that for support!

Well, I sent a support ticket to Magix (takes forever to find it by the way) and got an email back about a day later asking for more information. I sent back whatever they asked for, and thats it, no word yet.

Overall, i am thankful that Acid is back on the market, there are so many issues with it still, but I can somehow bypass them and work through. I am just waiting for Magix to tweak it enough where there won't be as many crashes and glitches. I have been with Acid since 1998 (SamAsh Music, Los Angeles), paid for and continue to pay for it in hopes that these problems will be fixed soon.

The issue that you are having, it is obviously not cableguys' product, sounds like campatibility problem with Acidpro. Here is another thing you can try, go to Program Files and go to Acid Pro folder, run the Acid exe file as an admin, then see if Cableguys stuff works.

Thanks fot the suggestion - I just tried that but unfortunately no dice. This is mind blowing really.

Same as you, I started on Acid in 2000 and produced a lot on it. However the constant niggles are wearing me down and make me look sideways towards other DAWs (cough Reaper cough Studio One cough cough).

AP is a couple of fixes away from being magistral. Starting with tech support.

I would hold on, man. Don't make the same mistake I did by switching years ago. No DAW is going to give you the ease and fast workflow as Acid will. I don't know what your workflow is, but I have gone through Cubase, Studio One, Ableton...you name it, all of them, even the free ones, no DAW is going to be "Acid". If Acid pro is what you are fluent with, stick with it because my creativity flew out of the window as soon as I left Acid back in 2007. I hear my own music which I made on Acid and the crap I made on every other DAW afterwards, sucked! I still go back and listen to my old stuff and feel that I was way more creative back then. So I have been back on Acid and yes, it is clunky but I have my hopes. So, my suggestion, since you come from the same era as I am, stick with it and be patient. Hopefully your plugins will eventually work, maybe with the next update. I am sure Magix is listening to us. They at least fixed one annoying problem I had complained about. It was a non-sense feature they had added and now its just an option if you want it. No need to mention it here. Hope it works out for you, bro.
