Burning Blu-ray from hard drive

Paul5 wrote on 1/13/2012, 9:20 AM

I have used Movie Edit Pro MX Plus to generate folders containing the blu-ray structure. I burned the resulting folder to a disc using ImgBurn, but the disc is not recognized in my player. The structure of the folders is as follows:

\my blu-ray disc\private\avchd\bdmv\

The \bdmv folder contains four folders and two files: \backup, \clipinf, \playlist, \stream, INDEX.BDM, MOVIEOBJ.BDM

I created the my blu-ray disc folder and Movie Edit Pro MX Plus generated the others. Which sub-folders should I choose to burn the disc (I chose 'avchd' in IMGBurn and that didn't work)? Is it possible to open Movie Edit Pro MX Plus subsequently and then burn the disc from within the program without re-encoding?

Thanks!

Hi

That structure does not look right for a Blu-ray or AVCHD discs(see image).

When you use the Image Recorder in MEP you should get an iso file which you burn to disc.

I suspect Imgburn has modified the file structure as you have burned the files in the MEP image folder

Thanks, John.

Shouldn't I have an option to either create an ISO file or create the individual folders and files?

Hi

MEP creates both, first it has to create the files needed ie the IFO and VOBs for DVD  or streams etc for BD or AVCHD before it can create the ISO image.

You should be prompted where to store the iso image when you click Burn when using the Image Recorder.

If you use a seperate program to burn the IFO and VOBs then it must conform to the standards of the disc type you are burning.

I use MagicIso Virtual CD/DVD Manager (freeware) to test the iso image - the software allows you to create a virtual CD/DVD drive in which you cam mount the image and play it.

Hi John,

I tried what you said, but I still end up with a BD file structure and no ISO file. Please let me know if I am doing something incorrectly. These are the steps I followed:

I clicked on BURN and then AVCHD. I selected:

1) Burner: Image Recorder

2) Disc format, Encoder settings: Presets, Users defined: AVCHD 1920 x 1080i NTSC

Smart rendering (altought the program says it will simply render the output) The bottom summary box shows:

MPEG4 Export (M2TS):
Video: 1920x1080i; 29.97 Frames/s; H.264 18000 kbit/s
Audio: 48000 Hz; Stereo;  AC3

3) Burn process/start video encoding:

Options: Turn on burner defect management

Encode in directory (I pointed to a specific directory)

I then clicked the disc burning icon and ended up with the structure I noted in my earliet posting, i.e., no ISO file.

I also tried to burn a blu-ray disc, after generating a blu-ray structure instead of an AVCHD one. This resulted in the creation of three folders: \AAC, \BDMV and \CERTIFICATE. I assume I was supposed to burn the disc with these three folders in the blu-ray disc's root directory. This did not work either. Nor am I able to burn an ISO file.

It is getting very frustrating trying to create a proper disc with this software. I have wasted about 6-7 discs in the effort. Can someone please let me know how to configure the output so that I can burn a proper disc.
