Hi

Thanks for the information.

. . . . Sony drive 52x32x52x . . . will only accept CD-RW . . . .

This is odd - what model drive is this? To find this right click Computer on your desktop and select Manage from the pop-up menu.

In the left pane of the window that opens select Device Manager the right pane will change to show the devices in the computer

Select the > symbol by DVD/CD-ROM drives in the right pane.

This should show the drives installed, post the device name(s) listed there.

What Windows version is on the computer?

Hi

. . . . Windows 10 . . . CD-Rom drive is CRX230ED ATA Device . . . .

This drive was first released in 2007 and is 'old' compared to newer drives.

I suspect that you are having either:

  1. an incompatibility issue with Windows 10 as in my case with a similar model.

  2. the drive firmware does not support modern discs.

  3. the drive is failing.

2 and 3 would also be supported by the fact it will only support CD-RW discs which have much lower write speeds

In all cases you may need to replace the drive.
