Blu ray disk chapters blank

Hi,

I expect that @karataka has gone away. In any event, thanks for the link to 10 Usability Heuristics (Nielsen Norman).

The "closing" business I choose as example, is a failure of heuristic 4: Consistency and Standards.

Interesting, but I still disagree as you will see below in my reply to Al. Having a redundant button is no consistent.

As for the problem of:

I burned a blu-ray disk ISO with menu. If I play the disk it works as expected, but If I select one chapter from the menu, I see a black screen an just the audio. Tested with VLC and real blu-ray player.

I made a few iso's with multiple movies, each with a couple of chapters. I tested the isos in VLC and CyberLink PowerDVD 16 and had no problems when opening any of the various chapters. It would have been good if you could have uploaded a small iso containing the problem that you see so that others could test it.

Did you try with smaller sized files?

Also, what were the Encoder settings? I used 1920x1080i NTSC (Default), as my project was set up for NTSC.

Unfortunately, my ASUS burner now refuses to burn to BR, only DVD, so I can't test a bluray disk. Maybe time to get a new burner.

Hi Al,

Been too busy and away for a while so just getting caught up. I disagree with what you say below, so I'm going to go off on a bit of a rant. Of the many things that we would like to see in MMS, I don't think that a redundant button is one of them.

Bit of drift, but I do agree with Karataka on the "closing" business. It is not Windows-logic to have to click "New Project" then have to close the open project.

Look at how many programs have a File>Close option. It works well and I use it often. When you do that, a new, blank document/project appears.

Magix's method isn't a big deal but it is another non-standard "obstacle" that needs to be learnt-about, and therefore detracts from the experience.

In MMS/VPX, you do not click "New Project" then have to close the open project. @karataka got the message to close the project by trying to open another project, not by clicking on New Project. And, I explained why. Look at the message. In MMS/VPX, if you have a project open and try to open another project, you get the questions - Close the current project to open the next project by itself, or Add the requested project to the current project. Very few programs offer this capability - multiple timeline/Movies. That is the only time that you get anything resembling "Close."

If you are in a project and select New Project - the button at the left of the top menu - if you have not saved but changes have been made, you will be asked if you want to save, otherwise, the project is automatically closed and the startup interface parameters screen shows up to create a New Project.

Adding a command or another button for Close Project to get a New Project would be redundant and poor design. Another button for Close Project would do exactly the same thing as New Project as there is no other state like in multi-file/project programs, and none is required.

Look at how many programs have a File>Close option.

Very few, mostly only programs with multi-file/project capability. Most software that I have that are single project/file types have New Project - no Close Project. These include: Magix Movie Studio/VPX/PhotoStory, Magix Music Maker, Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab, ACID Pro, ACID Music Studio, Corel VideoStudio, Vasco da Gama, Vasco Streetmaps, BluffTitler.

When is a Close Project command required as well as New Project? When there is the possibility to open multiple projects/files at the same time and you want to close one of them, keeping others open. These include Samplitude Pro X, Sound Forge Pro and Audio Studio, SpectraLayers Pro, SmartSound, all of which have multi-project/file capability.

Some programs that do have both New Project and Close Project but are single project/file types include Pinnacle Studio 23 and Vegas (I only have Vegas 18). In Pinnacle Studio, New project and Close Project do exactly the same thing and Close Project is redundant, not required, shouldn't be there. At least in Vegas, New Project opens a new project and opens the parameter screen at the same time; Close Project starts a new project but does not open the parameters screen. In any event, it is still redundant as anyone wanting to change the parameters would simply open the parameters screen.
