Big Films effects no longer working

@Derek-Norman

I'm glad you have it working because apart from the file not showing in the timeline view as did the other files, it showed on my monitor view just fine and exported really fast.

Putting everything through the CPU can work and does to an extent stop crashes on an under powered machine.

Under powered in as much as you are stretching the machine to its limits just using the Intel 630 if processing Pro res files. Ideally you need an nvidia card as well. I'm using an nvidia 1650 Super which was the most expensive card I could afford at the time but ideally the newer the card and the more vram and CUDA cores the better as projects either get more complex or use non standard file types. If you are not running two monitors then a headless ghost plugged into one output port would allow both GPUs to work in tandem. Headless ghosts act as a dummy monitor so fools the operating system into using the port and enabling that GPU.

Why did you not try this when asked?

As to how to get best results. I would suggest experimentation as each system can behave differently. It would probably be safe to leave Import to the HD 630 but first try Microsoft WARP for the other two.

I have now deleted your file from my system.

I think that when something like a chroma key effect is used that the individual colour channel positions are not read correctly, hence the combed look in the timeline where the image is not being processed but just read. The monitor shows a processed view in real time.

You do realise you could make your own explosions similar to that one using the Boris Particle Illusion standalone don't you? With a bit of practice that effect could be knocked out in about ten minutes or less.

It's probably what the company that made that file used. Either that or Blender. Both programs are free to download programs.

Ray.

I was scared to mess with those settings when asked before because of the problems it caused me with MS2022 before recent updates. At this point, since all else had been tried, and it was down to my settings, I had no choice.

I will eventually upgrade video cards or get a new laptop. This one just isn't what it was a few years ago LOL

Hi Derek.

Settings can always be put back. Just make notes as you go.

Yes. Effective life spans of any type of processing unit, be it a laptop, PC, or phone, is getting shorter and shorter.

Thanks to some gimmickry changes to CPU dies and with the introduction of 'chiplet' designs, Moore's Law is not only keeping apace but possibly being exceeded.

Unfortunately so is the cost.

After years of improvements with little extra outlay over the price paid for a machine purchased a few years back, prices now increase with the performance boosts hand in hand. I think the days of getting more for less are over. At least for the foreseeable future.

If you need to count the pennies then take a look at this post.

I think that Mike has the right idea of going about getting a reasonable setup at a bargain price.

Personally I recycle as much as I can. No-one has to be a tech head now to build their own PC or at least refurbish an old one to a usable state.

Hi

A bit late to the party, missed the download, however pleased to hear that the issue has been resolved.

Before I got a Nvidia GPU in my computer, I used to run with the 3 Device options all set to the UHD 630 in the processor - in your case the UHD 620.

The combination can vary depending on the source material you are using and, more importantly, with some plugins, which you may have, that work best on a suitable Nvidia or AMD GPU eg Neatvideo Denoiser.

. . . . I will eventually upgrade video cards or get a new laptop.. . . .

If you go down the laptop route, I can certainly recommend Lenovo, see my signature - they are the only manufacturer who specifically state the 2 GPUs, Itel and Nvidia could be run in Hybrid mode which utilises both as required - this gives the best of both worlds. Mine is as powerful and as fast as my PC when it comes to working with 4K video, and the 17" screen is a delight to work on compared to my older 15.6" screen.

My current laptop is a Lenovo Flex 5. I love it, and I will stick to Lenovo. I just have to accept that in doing video work, I will have to upgrade every few years.
