AVI Video Format

Doug-Consentino wrote on 4/4/2021, 7:58 PM

Hello,

I am using Acid PRO 8 and I want to insert a video that it is MOV format. I understand that MOV will not be accepted, so I would like to convert this to AVI. Do you offer any software that can covert MOV to AVI so that I can insert the video into Acid Pro 8?

I just downloaded a trial version of Vegas Movie Studio 17 and could not find a converter. It could that I just don't where to find it.

Thanks,

Doug

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

For converting the format of video files, have you checked out the (free) Handbrake or something like the (paid-for) MovAvi Video Convertor Premium?

There is no Magix video product which is designed to simply convert video file formats though most that I am aware of, if the original file can be imported, will then allow it be "exported" in the desired format.

With regard to the specifics of your question, do be aware that .AVI is a "container" format, i.e. it can include the use of a variety of codecs. Can ACID read video files which use any of these possible codecs?

yes - Handbrake is one of the best converters out there, but you need to know what you're doing. You can also check "pazera software" converters (google it) - great freeware that let you convert everything into everything (video, audio, everything goes), it even runs portable if you want.

Be of course aware of the thing written by emmrecs above - converting videos is not as simple and easy as converting audio, but this is a completely different story... ;)

Jeff,

I appreciate the quick response. I have not checked out any of the converters. I did download trial versions of Movie Edit Pro and Vegas Movie Studio. Vegas Movie Studio did not accept a MOV file, but Movie Edit Pro did. With Movie Edit Pro, I could export into the AVI file. I was surprised that Vegas Movie Studio could not import the MOV file. Once the AVI file was complete, I put it in my Acid Pro program perfectly! I probably will purchase Movie Edit Pro.

Thank you,

Doug
