AVI file causing Video Pro X6 to freeze trying to import.

I have finally tried to work with some of my .avi files in VPX6. Of course they are from Adobe Premier exported to avi (no compression).

Trying to import to VPX6 causes window "current movie has a resolution of 1920x1080 (16:9), 23.98 fps. The file "Wedding Export as avi (no compression).avi" has a resolution of 720x480 (4:3), 29.97 fps. If you want to align the movie and video movie settings to the file you wish to import, please click on "Adjust."

Whether I select "Adjust" or "Do no Adjust" program freezes and needs a force shutdown. I realize it is quite a jump in settings, so I tried project setting to match import 720x480 (4:30), 29.97 fps. Did not help.

Now I'm wondering, thinking back when I first purchased Magix, whether I need a special codec (.avi)? I know I needed to get the MP4 codec.

I have years of avi's that I would really love to make use of some of the effects I did. I always thought avi was a "standard" format.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried searching with as little as "avi" in tope line, but nothing seems to come up relevant to my problem.

Thank you in advance.

HI

The issue you are having is likely to be codec related.  You need to determine which codecs are required and if they are installed on your computer.

AVI is not a video file format - it is a container file format - this means that it can contain any video and / or audio file format within the AVI container.

To find out the actual video and audio formats contained within then AVI you can use GSpot or MediaInfo to analyse the AVI files and determine the actual codecs required.

GSpot will also tell you if the codecs are installed on your computer and if the AVI is playable.

Note - while the AVI's may play correctly in Windows Media Player or VLC, the codecs used are not available to VPX.
