Audio sync drift after capture

brucehusker wrote on 4/14/2013, 10:52 AM

Hi Gang...I'm sure this has been asked a million time, but I did numerous searches and can't find anything relating to my particular problem. I'm capturing 2 hour 8mm video tapes from a Sony TR7000 video camera via firewire to my computer with MEP MXPro. The computer is XP, 4 Gb mem, Intel dual core Proc. As the captured file goes along, the sync between Audio and video is lost, getting worse as it goes along. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? I just checked one of the captured files in MediaPlayer, and the drift is there as well, so the capture itself is where the problem starts. I'm going to try capturing the same tape with a different program to see if it's the camera

Thanks...Bruce

Hi Bruce

In the program settings check that Automatically create frametable on import option is selected - this should fix the problem

If not, on the timeline,  right click the imported video and select Create(new)  frametable option this should fix the problem then eport and  see if the sync is OK..

Also what format are you capturing in?

Note: Do not use the above options for HD video - it appears that it can cause problems

Hi Bruce

Another option is to ungroup the audio from the video and use timestretch mouse mode to drag out or shorten the audio track. Usually the correction required is small, so that slight pitch or speed differences are not noticeable.

Thanks John & Peter...John, I made the correction in settings and am trying a new capture of my first problem tape now. I'll report back on my results. I seem to recall having to do that very same thing last year, but I didn't remember it until you mentioned it again. I'm old:) Peter, I tried to adjust the soundtrack, although in a different way. I thought if I could move the soundtrack back 8 frames, it would sync up, but I couldn't get the soundtrack and the video track to disattach. How does the ungroup action work in this case? Thanks again!!!

Hi John...I recaptured the problem video after changing the setting you suggested, but it was exactly the same result. Again playing the captured avi in MediaPlayer, it is also the same result. Quite disappointing but I do have an older version of VideoStudioPro that seems to capture it fine, so I'll just go with that. I guess it always pays to have more than one tool. Thanks for your help, though!

Hi Gang...Just curious as to why MEP has such a hard time with this sort of capture when other software does not. 8mm video from a Sony video camera via firewire. Does anyone know?
