AP9 - Onboard Audio Card?

I’m interested in the AP9 Upgrade. I’m running AP8 using an EXTERNAL USB Connected PreSonus AudioBox and it works. Will AP9 work too? I see from the Required Specifications that an INTERNAL Audio Card is required. Is this true?

As I said AP8 is working with my EXTERNAL PreSonus AudioBox.
