AP10 Not impressed so far

I've been using Acid Music since it first arrived. Installed Acid Pro 10 and made sure it is the latest version. Core i7, Windows 10 & meets all the tech specifications and drivers up to date etc. Tried changing the storage destinations to manage HD use. AP10 Fails to remember any of those settings even after several attempts. Playback of a really basic 2 minute 8 track music bed with mix of loops and live recording all good until... suddenly it wasn't. Playback either won't start, stalls or causes a freeze requiring the AP10 process to be stopped in Task Manager. Reboot, Restart AP10 and it runs, load same tracks, playback for 30 seconds, all OK. I stop playback.and take a phone call, 10 minutes later with no intervention from me AP10 won't play back and freezes the system. No reported errors for anything in Device Manager all else OK so no clues there. Guess it just doesn't work as described or might need reinstalling. Can't rely on it, unimpressed but open to (friendly) suggestions that might make it work consistently.

Yup, lots of issues still. But I am still hoping that Magix picks up the crap Sony left and is working on fixing it. I absolutely Hate sony for this. I was hoping Magix guys had stopped rushing out upgrades after AP8 and rather worked on "updates". The GUI, the auto-loading of samples (still thinking who would think that was a good idea), crashes, AP not remembering the last saved folder and keeps reverting to default folder when something is exported. Zooming issues, still a lot of problems. When AP8 came out, I even upgraded my machine to 32gb RAM and top of the line system (don't have patience to write it all out) but sat there with my hair pulled out. Went up to version 9, then to 10. Things are picking up slowly with it but I am hopeful since I am one of the many who "paid the bucks and didn't get the boom (as Tad Donley would say it)".

Yeah, it's like a first issue Beta really not a full commercial relaese in my opinion. The second monitor support for video is not inspiring confidence and I think there might be issues with driver conflicts for USB Audio devices. Shame as it has so much potential and has been great. As for 'bang for my buck' I think I'm more likely to get that through my monitors when it messes with the audio stream.

Its a shame as such a great user friendly daw but its the most unstable by a long way,i ve tried other daws in full and in demos with no errors on any of them, just acid. I can get ideas down quick on acid which for me is one of its best features, acid 8 is fairly stable now as next,9 was and is always unplayable for me.10 was good for me til recently now its gone a bit gaga but just about workable again fingers crossed...ish.

Yup, Acid was the easiest of them all to use when it first came out. When I was a teenager with the worst computer in the world back in late 90s, the only DAW that could work on it was Acid (Sonic Foundry), and it is still the easiest (easier than that toy FL), but the most unstable. Lets all hope it becomes the one stop shop again.

I first used Sonic Foundry Acid to make radio jingles to very tight deadlines in the 90's. It worked well. I've used just about every professional DAW out there since CB and CW began. Reinvested in this as a notepad for ideas and to make some stings and beds for an urgent video project. Hopefully the next update will be soon and make it reliable and useful. Frankly If I bought this in a shop or from an pro audio dealer it would be going back as 'not of merchantable quality and unfit for purpose'. Dissapointing as it could be great.

Agreed! Acid pro was an entity of it's own when it started. No other DAW has the same feel and ease. The biggest thing for me is the explorer (double click from it, and boom, a track is ready to be painted), pick paint and play feature. Ableton comes close but can't even put a dent in the workflow in that sense. I made a huge mistake by switching to Cubase in 2007-08 and lost touch with Acid because Sony had bought it. For some reason, Acid pro worked great without issues until version 6. It started dwindling after 7 but I appreciated that at least somebody took it away from Sony. So lets hope the old feel is brought back...without the issues that everyone had or are having so this can run in the Major DAW race and become a force again.

Hmm... so Acid Pro decided not to work at all with an updated Focusrite ASIO driver (Looks like AP10 has its own version of an ASIO driver/interface) so I tried the Windows standard driver and I got sound I/O and functionality back. Out of curiosity I switched ACID back to use ASIO and...... It worked and still is. Other issues still not fixed though.

Actually, in my case, I don't even bother with the interface while using Acid. I just use the Windows Standard and it works fine. I do all my music making in Cubase or FL studio and bring them into Acid for painting and looping. I have been doing it this way ever since I got into music making when I was a toddler. Personally, I don't even bother using Focusrite in Acid pro, it crashed way more when I attempted that.

I have been using Acid since ver1.

Ap7 had 32bit on 64bit probs that was easy to work around. Acid 8 was dreadful crashed every session.Ap9 was bit better.Ap10 for myself has been stable no issue's....

I guess i pulled the short straw to have a working version .

I am off of Acid Pro again. Just can't do it. This may be a final "give up". No one cares.

I really know what your saying Its been such a unproductive time working with Acid 8 onwards .10 is working fingers crossed. The only way to try is a 3months subscription before committing hard earned cash..

Looney, I would hold on to the cash, man. Don't make the same mistake I made. My hopes were high and I dropped the cash on version 8, useless for many reasons, then on to version 9, still useless and now, me the idiot spent another 100 bucks on version 10. And I am back on Studio One! Almost as if I got pick-pocketed, not once, but 3-4 times. Can't remember, I bought something else, too.
