Analog Stereo being recorded as 1 channel or mono.

Source is a turntable running through the preamp only, of my Pioneer SX950 stereo receiver. I have a new Behringer external USB sound card with stereo in/out RCA jacks. When I monitor the source I have stereo. But when I roll balance all the way left both channels of Sound Forge go away. When I roll balance all the way right both channels stay and they are identical. The finished recording is not stereo. Left channel missing. Thoughts? Thanks guys.

Did you check the record channel routing under Preferences->Audio? If both SF channels are mapped to the right audio interface channel then the behavior you described is what I would expect.

Thanks for your reply James-Lo.
I downloaded Sound Forge for trial. I already have Magix Audio Cleaning 3.0. I didn't find the settings you referred to above in either program.

May I provide results of another test I just finished?
I used the left channel source only and plugged it left channel input to external sound card. Two channels are recorded. I plug the left channel source only into the right channel input of external sound card. No channels are recorded.

The system is grabbing only the left channel and recording as two channels while completely missing the right channel. This is happening on two different sound cards - the original internal sound card and a new external USB sound card. It is happening on the trial version of Sound Forge and the older Magix 3.0.

Did I misunderstand your idea about the settings under Preferences -> Audio?

To elaborate on what James-Lo previously stated "Options> Preferences> Audio device type> Record tab>  Recording device routing".
Assign the left and right channels on your sound interface. Also confirm in the new recording window "File> New" Channels> 2 (Stereo)
