"An error occurred while creating the media file. There is no license"

Jeff-Edwards wrote on 7/29/2022, 4:38 PM

When using Sound Forge 12.1 I get the following message when attempting to save an audio file,

" An error ocurred while creating the media file. There is not license to use this software".

.

I have owned this software for over 20 years and recently upgraded it to Sound Forge 12. I have even tried saving it as an mp3 or wav file but still get the same message.

Does anybody have a solution?

Thanks,

Jeff

@Jeff-Edwards

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Is your computer connected to the Internet? I believe SF needs to periodically go online to the Magix servers to check the status of your licence. If it is connected but you still receive this message that would suggest that your Firewall and/or Antivirus may be blocking the connection. In that situation you need to tell it/them to allow a connection to be made.

Yes, as Jeff stated, Sound Forge needs to 'phone home' from time to time to verify a codec license.

"recently upgraded it to Sound Forge 12".
SF-12 (the initial Magix version) is old in software years, though SF-12 Audio Studio had some unique features.
I think SF-17 is due to be published before the end of 2022 and any of your current version serials gets you the upgrade discount price.
That said, I still use SFP-10 on occasion, which was the last version that had the non-modal plug-in chainer and the legacy record UI.

Im having the same issue. My studio computer is NOT an internet computer, i bought this program with my hard earned money to utilize and run it WITHOUT checkpoints, or id have Never bought this. Any solutions for non internet computers or am I just doomed to never use this again..? Using sf12 pro as well. Thanks.

@Nick-Blick What is the problem to connect your computer for some minutes to the internet? You can even do this with your smartphone and tethering in case you don't have a wired internet connection.

Nick-Blick wrote on 10/17/2022, 5:26 PM

@SP. Cant afford internet. Dont have it. Plus shouldnt have to if i paid for the product. It is also never a guarantee having checkpoint activated software. For example, i purchased sonic foundry software well over 20 years ago, those particular softwares require you to register in order to use it, or your license key expires within 7 days rendering it useless, the problem now is that those servers are no longer available making the software useless. Plus not everyone can keep internet forever. I can give plenty more examples. Bottom line, if i paid for it, i should be able to utilize it without checkpoints. Thanks

@Nick-Blick Are you working on a laptop? Maybe there is some free wireless lan with internet available in a shop nearby.

Where are you getting access to this website from?

Nick-Blick wrote on 10/17/2022, 8:45 PM

@SP. I appreciate your efforts to help me but i dont see any light at the end of this tunnel unless it directly involves some software direction. Desktop that is non movable, mobile phone is means of communication, this phone doesnt do hotspot or anything of the sort. Thanks

@Nick-Blick Okay, then you cannot longer use Sound Forge until you find a way to connect to the internet.

@SP. Yeah. Ive come to the same conclusion friend. Thanks.

Have tried Magix support and ask if they have a solution.

You must know someone with a smartphone you can connect your PC to for a few minutes.

@rraud. Thank you for your input. Even if I knew someone with a smartphone, I do not have a wifi card on my tower. I literally need an internet-work-around solution. Awaiting Magix support to email me their answer to my issue. Having a pessimistic outlook but hey we'll see. If this ends up being my final comment youll know i wound up just eating the cost of the whole ordeal. But its ok, God is good to me, and better will come soon as it generally does. Thanks

@Nick-Blick You don't need a WiFi card. Like I already suggested, you can use tethering. Just connect a smartphone with its USB cable to the computer, enable mobile data and tethering, and Windows will install it as a network device.

@SP. I really appreciate your efforts to help and kindly thank you.. I dont mean to come across as a jerk, but i didnt purchase this software to sporadically hunt someone down with a smartphone and attempt to figure out all this other head thumping stuff out, not to mention me and the wife are private people and dont really speak to anyone, not only that but dont have outsiders at our residence. If theres some offline activation method thats different, but to keep doing this from time to time ultimately just makes the software undesirable. Still awaiting magix support to email me. Thanks
