Advice on cleaning audio in a video?

I have a video taken at a concert, and I am trying to clean up some of the background noise.  It's nothing very loud, but there is a bit of talking that I am trying to reduce.  I had video editing software with an option for concert footage that was something along the lines of "emphasize microphone-d sounds" or "reduce crowd noise" - but I can't figure out what program that was!

Is there a way to do this with MEP?  I am running version 14.  I am unfamiliar with the audio effects tools, and none of my experimenting seems to be netting the desired outcome.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

It's ultimately going to depend on whether the unwanted sound is sufficiently different to the wanted material. Presumably you've methodically tried the potentially relevant preset options under Equalizer > Preset and Compressor > Function (and Stereo FX > Preset if appropriate for your recording). If none of those work, then you could try isolating a section of the 'bit of talking' and adding it to your set of options under Denoiser > Advanced.

Thanks.  I have tried these methods, but the problem I'm finding is that I cannot locate the sound using the DeNoiser.  I know where it is on the track (and the time stamp), but when I search for it in audio cleaning, I get such short clips that I can't actually identify the sound.  I keep getting lost, in other words.

Is there any particular preset function that people have found useful for this type of work?

I assume you used Create wave form and examined the soundtrack at the trouble spots? And also experimented with the lower frequency sliders in the Equalizer? And the preset effects under Load Audio Effects?

Hi Terry.

I'm using: Movie Edit Pro MX Plus

I came across this older thread through a search for using the deNoiser. Unhappily your reply here stops at the point where I need to start.

I have isolated a sample of the sound that I wish to eliminate and set a range to cover it -- it's only a fraction over four seconds long.

What I can't figure out is how to make that range the sound sample.

I go into Audio Cleaning, check the deNoiser box, click Advanced, select the radio button for "Search for noise sample", Click Next (all other buttons in the "Extract you noise sample from audio track" are greyed out).

After clicking Next there is a delay of a couple of minutes (!), then the previously greyed-out Play button becomes active. Clicking Play produces a noise sample but it's not the one I want -- it's one I created earlier for another video object in this project. I created that earlier sample in the same way, so I THOUGHT it was using the range I had set. But apparently not.

So how do I create the sample from the audio segment that I want?

I really wish there were more tutorials available from Magix!
