Activation and first-time run issues

I purchased Music Maker and some sound packs in a Humble Bundle: https://www.humblebundle.com/software/vegas-pro-creative-freedom

I downloaded the program and after a few hiccups finally got it open. It mentioned an update was available so I downloaded the update and restarted again. I am now trying to activate it and install sound packs and actually run the thing.

When I boot it up there is a window with a pink button in the top right that says "Activate version". If I click this, the next screen appears, but completely freezes. I have rebooted 3 times and it does it every time.

So now I'm trying via the gear in the program itself, as outlined in these instructions: https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015726208

When I click the gear, nothing happens. Actually, when I click anything on the entire right side panel of the program, nothing happens. All of the other buttons work, but the buttons for loops, instruments, file manager and store don't do anything until I close and re-open the panel (then they suddenly appear). This trick doesn't work for the gear, though, nothing happens.

The store link (after closing and re-opening the right panel) also says it cannot connect to the internet. I am connecting to the internet fine in every other program. Obviously my internet is working, as I am typing this forum post on the same machine.

My computer is a 64 bit that had Windows 10 installed already when I bought it new. I have 16GB of RAM and 8 GB of VRAM. NVIDIA GTX 980M. More Specs: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GT72-6QE-DOMINATOR-PRO-G/Specification

I think I've fixed it! I installed new drivers for my graphics card (via NVIDIA's website). This didn't appear to do anything. I allowed Windows to install the Fall Creator's update.

Then when I started Music Maker again, I got a series of dozens of errors - all with the text:

"Sorry, Internal Error!

Page not written for FreeAllPagesForSI

File: PRIM.CPP

Line: 1894"

I allowed the program to file the report/logs to Music Maker and took a few screenshots. When I booted up the program again, the buttons now work and the access to the store works as well.

No idea what happened exactly, but maybe this will help someone in the future.
