🎄🎉 ACID PRO 11 + SOUND FORGE 16 - CHRISTMAS CRASH SPECTACULAR! 🎉🎄

Forever-Season wrote on 12/19/2024, 4:25 PM

Here’s the plot so far:
1️⃣ Opening screen appears.
2️⃣ App scans for plugins.
3️⃣ BOOM — immediate exit, no encore.

Attempts at holiday cheer (aka fixes) that failed:
🎁 Magix System Check: Support said to disable 3rd party antivirus. I did. The apps still ghosted me.
🎁 Settings Refresh (ALT + SHIFT): Held on like it was a Mario cheat code. Result: Nada.
🎁 Uninstall/Reinstall: Fresh start, fresh heartbreak.
🎁 Installed latest release of each version: You’d think the “latest” would work. You’d be wrong.

I even contacted support, and after all their help… still nothing worked.

Now I’m here, wrapping this plea in festive frustration and hoping someone has a solution.

@Forever-Season Keep holding CTRL and SHIFT while the program starts until a small window appears that will ask you if you want to reset the program settings. Do this and and maybe the program will work again.

Hey @SP. Thanks for this, I tried this and it did not work. It will not open at all.

@Forever-Season Ok. Maybe a plugin crashes the scan. There are audio_plugin_scan_server exe files in the Acid program folder. Maybe move them temporarily to another location. If I remember it correctly Acid will then throw an error message and not scan for plugins. You can then check the VST paths and maybe modify them to not include certain plugins. After that, move the exe files back and restart Acid.

Hello @SP. May you please confirm if these are the files, please see photo attached

@Forever-Season Yes, they look like it. You can make file extensions visible via the Explorer settings.

Hello @SP. I tried this and it did not work. I noticed that the software is crashing when it searches my audio drivers and not the VST plugins. Can I skip audio driver searches? I have some audio drivers that I use for routing etc

@Forever-Season Interesting.

Maybe Acid/Sound Forge installed also the Magix Low Latency ASIO driver. This is an older version of ASIO4ALL and this old version can have problems with newer computers.

If you want to uninstall Magix Low Latency you need to delete it from the Windows registry. Sadly there is no other way as far as I know.

Press the Windows key + R on your computer keyboard, and type REGEDIT in the Open field and press enter.

Then navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ASIO > Magix Low Latency 2016. I hope you can find the entry.

Now, simply right click the Magix Low Latency 2016 folder, and delete it. Do not delete anything else. Better upload a screenshot and ask if you have a question.

After that restart your computer. Please select the Restart option and not the Shut down option.

Hello @SP. I have not found the Magix Driver. These are the only ones available.

@Forever-Season Ok. Which audio device is selected as the default device in the Windows sound control panel?

To open the Windows sound control panel easily, again hold down the Windows key and tap R. In the Run window, enter mmsys.cpl and press Enter.

In the Playback tab should be a green checkmark next to your standard playback device. You can change the device via the right click menu. You can also disable devices. Maybe it helps if you change the standard device or disable other devices. Or maybe do this in the Recording tab as well.

Hello @SP. THE SOFTWARE IS NOW WORKING!!!!!!!! Thank you so much! One of the audio drivers was stopping the plugin from working!!! Thank you thank you thank you! I had to uninstall it completely for ACID PRO to work will now try SOUND FORGE and see how that goes! Thank you! Thank you!

I appreciate everything!

@Forever-Season Great to hear you found the culprit. Of course, Acid should handle the drivers fine, but it's getting older every year and may have problems under certain circumstances.

Hey @SP. I hear you!I will definitley keep this in mind. I sent an email to support and let them know it has now been resolved. I mentioned you in the email and linked your profile! Do you work for Magix? If not they should hire you!

Thanks once again for everything.

@Forever-Season No, I'm just a user like you. But I'm a longtime Magix user, since the late 1990s.
